I just put 8 otos in quarantine. They are new and larger/more mature than I expected. There is some algae but not a lot. Will a piece of algae wafer be enough daily supplement for them? I have some freeze dried greens and spirulina, too. (I put a little in.) But none of my fish have ever given it a second glance. They are in an eclipse 12 with a little drift would and a little eco substrate and stones.

8! :/

Otos recquire quite alot of food to remain at peak health.

EDIT: I found it~ :p (Good old Google...)

I really feel its too small for that amount of ottos personally. Algae will not have enough time to grow. But, you can feed them what you have and see if they will take it! Also fresh blanched vegies such as cucumber or corchet (sp??) go down well! :)

Can i ask who or where you got your info from so i can check it out?

Sorry mr_miagi32, Thanks for your response.

I just saw your post.

The otos are licking the Hikari algae wafers.

I called the suppliers when one of the otos turned ill overnight. I told them that I was concerned that they would eat. She said they should do ok on the wafers, although they had not found them yet, they would when they got hungry.

They are wild caught. I don't want to put them in the community without about 3 weeks of obesrvation.

I also got 3 Orange BN juvies and a flock of hatchets, each in different tanks and each tank has it's own worries.

All but the one oto are doing fine. The BN are sucking new not presoaked driftwood and Hikari algae wafers, sinking wafers, and some shimp pellets. The otos are also sucking on the Hikari Algae pieces I dropped in.

The weak oto has licked an algae piece and moved to the side of the tank. I don't hold much hope but if it is stress and hunger and not desease maybe he'll continue to pick up. Actually I have already reported him a goner and been reimbursed. If he lives I'll have to give it back. :kana:

I'll see if there is a piece of cucumber I can get at work Monday. In the meantime I could try some blanched deskinned frozen peas? I can also rotate some decore that hasn't been cleaned lately from the big tank to the eclipse for them to clean. :shifty:

Thanks again for you info and concern.

What were you googling? I didn't catch that. ????

:kana: I put two dingy looking silk plants in with the new otos. They made short work of cleaning them up. I will have to use great restraint to keep from transfering them soon to clean up the community and to continuing moving furniture instead.

I guess I will have to give the BN a treat frm the big tank too. :sly:

And the little sick oto is sitting up now instead of laying on its side. :#
