I wish I had a picture but I don't... I have 6 fry, and I can't tell whether they are platies or mollies!! Both the Mommy's that I suspect look thinner now. The Molly mommy is obviously thinner (she was really bloated for a week or so) and the Platy female has been bloated since I got her (4-5 weeks ago) and I can see the gravid spot on her, I think. The babies are so cute, small and black with silvery tummies. They LOOK more like Molly's but I think they are Platy's. Anyone have pics of both so I can compare? I am too curious! When will I see color?

congrates.the colour will come in about a week.its really hard to tell the difference right off between fry. i have some guppy and platy fry that were born around the same time and it took a week until the colour came in to tell that they were actually platy and guppy i thought they were all guppy. i cant show you molly babies because my molly died while aborting her eggs.she couldnt pass one and it festered inside her and she died.if i can figure out how to attach a photo i'll show you a platy fry.

I don't have pictures sorry.
How big are or were your fry when first born?? I just discovered new born plattie fry and including their tails, they're only 5mm long. And a cream colour.
I"ve got two molly fry. When I discoved them they were 6 or 7 mm long and a silver colour already. THey're now developing their black tales and a few spots like mum (dalmation).
I've never had molly fry, it was a suprise but I'm guessing with them being bigger the fry would be bigger so I hope my sizing may help. I'm sorry I can't help more.
It only took about a week before I could tell my original fry were molly tho.
good luck and congrats. :D
I just dicovered my platty fry about 1 hour ago. exciting isn't it :D

congrates to you too sushi on your molly fry. i guess i will never have any :sly: unless i buy a new female molly.i couldnt figure out how to do a picture in this forum.i'll try to post it in the aquarium section because i know that you can put pictures in there.

 it worked.i posted a thread in the aquarium section titled my very first fry.

Wow I still can't tell, but I think they are Molly's, they are very black.

Thanks for posting the pics!

When did the platy fry get its color? Mine are almost 2 weeks old and still all black... which leads me to believe they are Molly fry, and not Platy fry as I originally thought. Unfortunately, the Mommy Molly recently died (I am still cycling) but the fry seem to be doing well, even though nitrites are a little high.

i would say that if they are black then they are molly fry. my platy started showing their colour within a week.

I saved 4 dalmation molly fry...and as soon as they were born they had spots on them...I have 76 fry all together...black molly, silver molly, dalmation molly, sunset platy, tuxedo platy, fancy tailed guppy fry...all my fry looked alike except my guppys...they have big eyes with very small bodies. and blk molly fry come out very blk...and they have stayed that way. Tuxedo platy fry's are 2 weeks old still have not got any color to them. my sunset platy fry is colorless also. so I think mine takes awhile before they get there color....congads on ur babies

Thanks... the two suspects for bearing these fry were a Black Molly and a Sunset Platy, so perhaps it is still up in the air as to what fry these are! I've taken a look at members' pics of their fry, and they tend to look like Molly's. Wish I had a digital camera...
