Thats fair enough, just want you to know it is a question that gets asked at the start, it can also dictate wheether you need or want Fish Only, FOWLR or full blown reef, again this makes a huge difference to the equipment you buy and the initial outlay costs.
There are of course things you will need for all three types but just looking at the members tanks on here, there are so many ways and choices to setting up a marine tank.
Research is always the key, which you rightly said. I myself researched for 12 months before even posting a question in the marine section. Possibly excessive, but has stood me in good stead.
