Does this look ok for bettas?betta tank I just got two betta's in tiny bowls from a friend and I don't have alot of surface room left in my apartment so I need something not too big... Is it ok for them to see each other? is that two small? Should I maybe get a 5 gal and a divider? They do ok without filters right? do i need a heater? I have a betta in my ten gal with other fishes but I am a newbie with single betta's. Also can I put ghost shrimps in there when there is no filter... thanks for any help :D

:S I wouldnt personally keep them that close, but not sure what others will say. It does look small perhaps you would be better getting a slightly larger and divide it, or could you get 2 cheap ones and have them side by side even if it is lengthways on? You can then put a bit of paper between them and let them flare every now and then. Dont need filters, heater..maybe..if water temp is cold....unsure about shrimps!

Looks a bit small to me, the 5 gal sounds like an awesome setup and a better choice. A filter isn't neccessary just for bettas but if you go with the shrimp you'll need one, just make sure it isn't too strong for the bettas. They pretty much hate any current.

A heater is reccommended, to regulate temperature at night and in cold weather.

I definitely would never recommend the dreaded "Betta Hex"! That thing is nowhere near 1 gallon. Each Betta has about a quart to themselves, and can barely turn around. They deserve a much better, much more open space. There is no way that thing can fit a heater, filter, or anything like that. It can barely fit a tiny plastic plant!

I totally recommend buying 2 all-glass 2.5 gallon tanks (which are less than $5 each) with the mesh screen lids (also cheap), or 2.5 gallon Minibows, and place them side-by-side, allowing the Betta a couple hours of flaring time every day. For most Bettas, you should block their view for most of the day or it will stress them. In these tanks, you can use a small heater if needed, and a sponge or corner filter if you'd like. You *can* divide a 5g, but I recommend using aquarium sealant on the divider because male Bettas WILL find a way through an unsecure divider!

Thanks for the advice!!! I love this forum :good: I am gonna go betta home hunting in the morning :D I am sure I will have more questions soon!

Gah, please don't put your betta in one of those. I rescued Cabaret from one of those. He had horrid fin rot, and he still didn't make it. :(

Anyways, good luck with the betta hunting. You'll probably be wanting another one as soon as you get one. ;)

Ya, they are way to small and if you go to a dollar store or a Walmart you can pick up a cheap container that would work until you were able to find a large or bigger tank for your betta. I picked up one of those containers that you showed at a yard sale for .25 last SUMMER, I only use it to house my bettas while I'm cleaning my tanks out.

They are in little bowls right now... :( they seeem ok for now they are making bubble nests at the moment... I am gonna go check out some pet stores here in a few and see if I can find something bigger and not to expencive, I am low on cash at the moment... thanks again :D

Just go to local supermarket or something and buy the biggest food tub you can. i know my local poundland has like 10liter tubs!

i have a tank like that but i took the divider off and just put one fish, and its still small

Well I got them each a one gal tank cause that is all I have room for at the moment. I think next paycheck I am gonna buy them something to swim through cause my one in my ten gal really likes his bridge.. and I want to put a plant or two in there... any recomendations for plants in unfiltered tanks that get cleaned out alot? right now I have some java moss in with them.. I took some from my other tank. They seem alittle bored so I want to get them something to have fun with :D
