I  my goldies. They got me started fish keeping. The only expensive fish I have bought are some of my goldies. I got this my first large tank so Fish could stick around for awhile

So it seems fitting to share the family before my first fish goes a courtin' and my most recent fish grows up.

Here we go (please be patient I always overdo the pics):

This is the Goldie Family

Here is their home. I can't put much decor in because Fish knocks everthing over.

Meet Goth. He's the new Goldie in the family. He still goes off by himself a lot, but he's getting settled in and isn't panicking quite so much. Especially since I finally fed him.

He seems to like the no fishing sign.

This is Orange Oranda. She was full grown in PetSmart in a tank with danios, which she was munching on. I fell in love with her face. She is the first fancy that I didn't think looked deformed. I thought she was beautiful with her organza skirt.

This is my baby Blue_Rye with the tummy ache. I found him floating on his back the other night. It scared me quite a lot. This picture is the first time I've seen his eyes. I love his little scrunched up face.
Oh! and there is a another new member of the family. Some kind of black snail. I hope it's a b. apple and not a c. apple. But the Goldie family doesn't get a planted garden anyway.

Here is the family again. The common goldie is Fish. She has been a good mother to the little brood and always takes care of them. She is getting too big now and gets a little rough in her excitement.

That is the Goldies. Mind you I don't really know which sex any one is. I just say what they feel like to me.

Love the pics, really nice to see your fish.

The black orandas problems with floatiness may be due to him having Ryukin in him. You can tell by the large hump he has and that might explain why he has a tendency to float.

MicHAeL, The second pic is a full tank shot. It's not a very attractive tank in the pic. I think it looks better than that, but I don't notice the black tubes and cords. Guess some day I should put a backing on it. I have one but it is blue or tropical and I don't like it for this tank. Once Fish leaves I can probably put in some taller plants to hide the cords, etc. Also the tank light was shining flourescent on the water in the shot. It looks tacky. Oh well, the 2nd pic.

Thanks, Blade. It took a lot of time to upload.

Thanks, black angel, for the info on Blackie. Is it the hump high up on his back? I will watch him. It's the first time he did it.
If you look at Goth's head, he has white or light places. I was a little suspicous, but now I see a couple of definate small white dots. He isn't dusted. I had treated their water with CopperSafe the day after I brought him home. He does not look like he feels well. I am going to call the lps fish manager. They are truely nice people, but sometimes a little ignorant.
(For instance, they think that culumnaris and NTD are the same thing. I am still battling the culumnaris I brought home with some neons 2 or 3 months ago. It is on it's second outbreak and has shown up in the 100 usg. I am treating all 8 of the other tanks now. I haven't started the Goldies yet. I want to try to find out what/if Goth has anything. I have told them repeatedly that their diamond head neons are sick and they repeat that it's NTD and untreatable. Sigh...I gues I need to stop buying from them until they get it. But they are the most knowledgeable and have the best local stock. :/ )
Can you tell from Goth's pics? If not I will try to see if I can get a pic of the new spots. One thing he sits still while Blue_Rye is all over the place. Frankly if Goth has something, I'm hoping it is ich. At least I can treat that easily and the culumnaris treatment is compatible.

Let me know what you think, black angel.???

When they get new wen growth it comes in as white pimples. That is what it looks like to me anyway.
Yes the high hump on his back is that of a ryukin.

Oh, Thank you! black angel!!! I am so relieved. Whew!!! (Wipes brow) (Hugs an angel)

That is very near what the lfs told me. The manager, Keith, said they get whitish around the cracks, when they are stressed. To give it a few days, but to watch for infection on the cap, as it can happen. He said the little guy was probably stressed from the transfer. Goth did make a difficult transition. Keith even offered to give me a weeks worth of the treatment he uses for culumnaris (and NTD) for my 200+ usg of tanks. I told him I had started a treatment, to let me finish it. Then if I still have it, I would hit him up. He said: "Boil it or soak it in clorine. Then air dry it." I think some sunshine might do some good.

I asked God to help this morning as He's the only one who really can. I had been too caught up in meds and treatment and boiling and posting. I hadn't stopped to ask directly. :*)

I am going to go in and smile at Goth now and tell him I know it's ok :D

i like the pebbles i saw some at blagdon water garden centre, for some reason i like it but no where to put it ........

may i suggest as u mention getting background why not go for black background as it may blend in well with the pebbles and once the light on am sure it will look great when the night fall

but am only sayin as i know the blue background u get as on reserve side is black

but nice fishes

I have thought of black, but I'm afraid that Blue_Rye (just renamed him as a result of black angel's info of him being part ryukin) won't show up. The black substrate hides him a lot. The substrate is Spectra Stone. It is good for an unplanted tank. It doesn't require washing. :D I hate substrate washing. Ugh! :X

Actually the background I have for that tank and never used is ocean blue on one side and tropical planted on the other. Probably I will add decor that will hide the accouterments when Fish moves. Although I got a used 60 usg that I considered for the coldwater tank when I got ii.

I am concidering add some other flourescent color that will show off Blue_Rye.

Suggestions? I will need to add to it when they go to a bigger tank.

Are your fish indoors or outdoors? I notice you have some large pond fish.

Have you seen the moon glow lights? They are really pretty and people use them at night to see the catfish, but i think they can be used through the day and give everything a lovely blue colour.
Maybe best to ask about lighting in that section as theres so many options to pick from now..

Oh! You Aussies! Your'e very kind. :*)

I actually do have two underwater blue lights. They are the long flourescent. The bulb can't be replaced, but they don't cost much more than a good bulb on sale. They were on sale at drsfosterandsmith. I use one of them in my big community planted tank. It's 20 watts. Not much growth help but, I have it on during the day. At night I can watch the fish doing their night thing without bothering them so much.

I got a smaller one too, but I haven't decided where to use it, yet.

I was actually thinking about the substrate and what color of flourescent stones would look nice with those guys.

I'm bad I so want to get a pearl orange cap oranda. Goth had a tank mate--probably a sibling that is a pearl calico. See all I have to do is hook up that 60 usg. Hehe. :shifty:

I put the tropical planted backing on.

I've been thinking about the blue flourescent light. I put an add on light in the hood of that tank, so it has two fourescents in the hood. The goldies don't need high light and their tank isn't planted. I could put a blue bulb in the hood with the color enhancing bulb. Might work.

Goth reminds me of a cat, He likes to rest on the bottom when nothings going on. I want to gather him up in my lap and pet him.

Very nice goldie tank...I love Goth. When I went to get my toadies the other day I say a very small one similar..with the black tipped fins..I thought it was loverly...seeing it in a large version just confirms it lol.

Wish I had a place for a big tank..I'd love some goldfish...but, well I guess i will just have to keep looking at you guys pictures lol.

Your LFS think columaris and NTD are the same thing? Wow.
Maybe you should print this website out and take it to him...

http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/neondisease.htm

It tells all about NTD. IT's nothing like columaris. :/
