HI all,

I am waiting today(this morning maybe) on delivery of gold laser corys, small school of 6 which were quite expensive.
They are wild caught.

I am absolutely confused in which tank to put them and whether to quarantine them or not.
Also, whether to treat them with something just in case or not.

Tank 1: 7G square type of tank that seems too small to house 6 corys. It has undergravel filter and has platy and guppy fry in it at the moment.
Tank 2: 30G tank. It contains my female guppy and platy fry. It has room stocking wise for the corys, but it doesn't have too many hiding places and the bottom is quite exposed.
Tank 3: 90G. It is where the corys are supposed to live. It has my 6 albino corys and 10-15 male guppies. Problem is that if the corys turn out sick, it's quite expensive to treat this tank I think.

In all cases I will risk infecting other fish if the new addition is carrying diseases.

Has anyone got fish through the post without them getting sick?
Do you normally put any type of tonic/medication while acclimating for example?

Arrived!!!
They are smallish actually.
They are being acclimated for the last 30min. I think they'll go into the 90G. There are no visibal signs of any sickness or damage besides them sitting motionless from stress I guess

I think I acclimated the fish enough after about 1hr40min drip acclimation. I just moved them in. While transferring them I noticed 3 of them had their tails clamped to the point that it looks some of it is missing although I can see it's there. Is there anything I can do about this?
My albino corys stopped flying around the tank and gathered around the new corys.
Poor little things, they are actually so small that I am sure they are only a few months old. Hope they all make it.
Any advice?

They are mostly hiding for now but come out from time to time. The pleco scared the hell out of them and they actually scared the poor clumsy pleco too when they panicked around him.
They seem to be following the adult albino corys
Wondering what the clamped fins are from? It looks like they are tinted upwards as if from staying inside a rounded plastick bag of water. Or maybe it is the change of water conditions?

The video is dark due to the lights being switched off but if viewed full screen it's kind of ok.

Hi snazy :)

Congratulations on your new fish! :yahoo: Best of luck with them.

I would have rather seen you put them in a quarantine tank for a few weeks, but that doesn't matter now. They look good so give them a chance to relax and settle down. If they seem too nervous, keep them in the dark for awhile. Also, they didn't eat while in transit and probably for the day or so before, so be sure they have a nice meal once they have become used to the tank. I usually wait until the evening after I receive them to give them food.

Thanks. I so much want them to survive!!!

I haven't even seen such small corys. The guy from the online shop was telling me that the gold laser don't grow as big as the aeneus for example and they reach max size 4cm. Is that true?

I already dropped some micro granules(hikari) for corycats that I have and lights are off. How long will I keep the lights off for?
I also have frozen blood worms. Is it a good idea to feed them with this too?

I was intending to quarantine them but my 7G tank ended up with a sickish fish with something like fin rot due to me dropping it on the floor accidentally. There are meds in it and more fry and it has an undergravel filter so I can't remove the meds easily and I am afraid to take the risk putting the corys in this tank just in case they don't like medication.

My other tank has fish in it so it won't work as a quarantine tank and after receiving these small little beauties I just couldn't torture them in a tank with no sand too.

I am praying for the best!!
I did acclimate them properly I hope and the Ph in the bucket was the same as in the tank when I netted them out.
I can't be sure if all of them are ok but I can see some of them digging the sand and exploring around.

And a bit of a video at full lights from today. All 6 corys zipping around and accounted for.
At the end of the video in the little breeder box you can see the results of my attempts to breed corys. I managed to hatch only one egg so far ???? and the baby cory is just a bit short of two weeks old :yahoo:

lovely looking fish - where are they from and how much were they?

I live at the end of the world  so they cost me more than you can normally buy them for.
Depending where you are located, many fish shops stock them or you can ask to order them for you. But they probably will be double or trebble the normal price of a cory.
They are gold laser corydoras.
There is a green and an orange laser version of them but the shop told me these are the best looking ones from them.

They seem to be about £15 each when ever I see them with a £25 courier charge. Haven't seen them in any of the LFS round here but the Venezuela blacks come in now and again at silly prices.

I can actually get the black Venezuela for a lot less, like 7-8 euro each in a LFS or online delivery with just a small shipping charge.

Seeing that you are in the UK, try the http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk. I am sure you'll find the laser corys for a lot less there.

I saw some of these in my LFS the other dY at £18 each! They are beautiful though.

That fry is sooo sweet

They're very pretty, glad they're settling in ok

Thanks Cazgar. They seem to be active and eating. I keep counting until I've found all 6 as they don't stick together that much, same as the albinos.

The ones with clamped tails still have them so I don't know what this is about. It looks like the tails on fish that were left outside of water for a while and they got dried out and clamped. It may be that during transport the box got tilted and they were only partially covered as there wasn't too much water in the bags. I think I see slight improvement but I may as well be too wishful. It doesn't seem to bother them the slightest though and so far everytime I look at them they are digging the sand or swimming around. For fish that were transported from overseas they don't seem too tired
Poor pleco, he can't get to his algae tablet. I thought corys don't like them..

Another video at feeding time!!!! Sorry, I can't stop filming them...
