I just got some new fish from a lady threw the local paper here in town. She gave me two tanks. One is a 10 gal. with 12 convicts in it and one pleco. Also I have a 20 - 25 gal. tank she gave me that has a mating pair of convicts as well as one yet to be identified fish as well as a pleco. My big question is she had them on goldfish food. Is this healthy? Should I change it? If so what to? I really wasn't too prepared for this but it was me or the toilet so I think I made the right choice.

To say the least she's not very smart. I don't know much about Cichlids but I heard that Convicts can get very aggressive and i'm pretty sure they shouldn't be in the 10g tank. I'd recommend you put the unidentified fish in the smaller tank and take a picture and show us.

Put all the convicts in the bigger tank and depending on the size of the Pleco, do what you feel right. You should post pictures of the Pleco also.

Also look in the species index on the site and look for Convicts and Plecos, there you'll find out what to feed them, but I wouldn't feed them goldfish food.

If your plecos are common plecostomus they need to be in at least a 75 gallon because it can grow up to 18 inches (46cm). Convicts need to be in at least a 20G tank, 25 gallon for a mating pair.

Some pictures of the tank and how it looks. One of my friends is thinking of taking some of the fish because I know that it is horribly overstocked.
