if your adding new fish to the aquarium but only have 1 tank and 1 setup how would you quarintine them

very difficult to quarantine!!!

as the quarantine process is usually to mimic the conditons of the main tank but to keep the "new" fish under observation in case they have a disease that has not shown itself

for a beginner (like wot i am) a 5 gallon is superb - small setup, less medication, etc etc

hth??

If you only have one tank you can't really quarantine... Rob is right, if you can get another tank (5 gallon is a great beginner size ;) ) otherwise don't worry about it, it's not absolutely necessary.

I've just bought a 5 gallon tank purely for this reason. I've had to treat my main tank twice now with meds and just felt it would be easier to have a quarantine tank for this purpose. It also doubles up as a nursery tank for any fry.
