Well ive been having problems with snails and im glad to report that thanks to all of your advice my tank is now full of snails..... just kidding :shifty: I only have one or two left to get rid off. So thanks to everyone for all ur great advice on this problem. :good:

Ive been keeping tropical fish for a few months now and have problems with snails. I have tried almost everything to get rid. Is it a wise idea to move my fish to a small tank and completly empty my tank of everything, clean it and start over. Might sound ott but they are driving me mad. HELP!!! I have 2 clown loaches but they dont seem to show much intrest in them. Ive tried snail traps but they are useless.

Try this, put lettuce in your tank over night (they will be swarming on it) and then take it out.

Or try putting in 1 tsp. of aquarium salt per gallon. FW snails die with salt, but you will have to pick out dead snails...

Hope it helps.

From what I have heard, I don't think it is a good idea to put salt with loaches in the tank. It could kill them  I could be wrong though

Will the salt damage any of my fish? The lettuce idea sounds good. The snails are also breeding in my filter so spores are getting blown back into my tank. how can i clean in this area? aarrgh i new i should have got a dog lol.

You could try putting in a dwarf puffer fish, that would certainly munch through them, not sure how it would be with your other fish though.

Bad idea, Unless you want all your fish dead!

Puffer fish are very aggressive , so they are best on there own or in a species tank.

I Would try Amano Shrimp?

Amano shrimp? I dont know what they are or where to get them. Are they ok with other fish. I have 2 clown loaches 4 red eye tetras 5 platys and 1 white tip dwarf plecy. If they are ok with them will they eat the snails?

use Flubenol 15 it will kill snails and leave the fish OK :)

remember to take the dead snails out or theyt will foul your water up pretty quick :)

I have gravel at the bottom so i take it i will just use the gravel hoover to get them out but what about the ones in my filter? Does that stuff also get rid of spores? Thanks for your help on this matter.

gravel hoover is fine, you will have to use the product for a few days to wait for the eggs to hatch, and hand pick out the dead ones from your filter, also no carbon in the filter whilst medicating the tank.
this product will kill all crustaceans ie, shrimps, snails etc so only use if you only have fish in there. plants will also be fine :)

I dont mean to sound dim but what do u mean by no carbon in the filter?
sorry some people use carbon media in there filters, this will filter out the medication and stop it working.
its usually black and in bags, what type of filter do you use and whats in it media wise ?

Ah ok. yea i do have that lol. sorry i really am new to this. So i take it when i use the product i only remove that filter sponge.

yes only remove the carbon filter if you have one, leave the others.
i would do a bit of research on filter media, not many people use carbon in there filters anymore, except to clear medication out of a tank.
