I have recently began re-stocking an empty tank and decided to go with cichlids.

I have a pair of orange cichlids and had just those for a good while before I bought my new additions. I bought a pair of blue and black striped cichlids.

They had a bit of a squabble when I first put them all together and then they were fine and have been happily swimming around together for the last few days. I checked my tank this morning and one of the new blue cichlids has literally vanished. I cannot find it anywhere and there is no sign of any remains.

Whats going on? Any ideas??

Literally just found it. Appears it must have jumped through the tinest hole in my tank lid :(

No.. it was very dried up and must have died some hours ago. Annoyingly enough I did look around the tank and couldnt see it but later found it hiding under a curtain a few feet away. Have learnt my lesson and covered the small openings on tank... didnt realise these guys would jump out such a small hole.

What are orange cichlids?
Orange Cichlids are a species from the cichlidae family of fresh water fish, usually having the scale color baring a resemblance to the color orange. They tend to not yellow, or red, but somewhere in between. They are never blue, as those are blue cichlids, nor are they purple, those are purple cichlids. They may be confused with gray, white, or black cichlids if the identifier is color blind. :shifty:
