New Fire Eel

after losing my fire eel this weekend i have decided to get a new one.i reserved him today he is HUGE i would say 19" and i am picking it up on wednesday.i am interested to know how big other peoples fire eels are

It was & was silly tame too. It would take earthworms from my hand & stick it's head right out of the water for them.
I had him about eight years - took him on at about a foot when he started eating the other fish in the 3 foot community tanksomeone kept him in. Fire eels used to be very expensive back then.
Some things don't change -people buying big fish for little tanks.

32" !!!! WOW that is massive.

What size tank did you keep him in? I have a 17" fire eel in my 96 UK gal and I bought him at around 14-15". I have a second fire eel that is about 9" bought when 6" in my 55 UK gal tank.

I did know that fire eels ate fish but whenever I offer prawns, lance fish, white bait etc. my 2 just ignore it.

Fire eels are great for being so tame though and I think it is great. Mine always brush past my hand and come out for food even when just doing a water change lol.

Tank was 6'x2'x2' with a box hood and bricks on top to keep him in!
He ate gamarus, earthworms, cull cichlid fry and strips of beefheart - earthworms were by far the most preferred food.
For the first few years he shared with a Tilapia mossambique ( now Oreochromis mossambicus) but the tank became too small for the pair & they had to be split.

I have seen one larger one.

I have just got myself a frie eel...its only 4 inches Thats a good thing as my tank is only 65 gallons....

It is amazing!!! I love your leopoldi stigray and the colouration on your fire eel is great!! I envy you
