Cheers, already checked that it makes the noise without the hydor flo, im sure its the fact its in the chamber as the back wall is plastic so theres more chance of vibration even though its not touching it

Has anyone ever heard of putting a light dimmer switch on the maxijet cable. I would only be turning it down around 5 hours out of every 24.

getting some tube connections today to see if I can get it to sit better.

Light dimmers are a bad idea. The electromagnetic motor of any AC submersible pump does NOT like being controlled via resistance like a light dimmer switch. It will overheat and cause premature failure of the pump. The only way to control AC magnetic induction motors that you find in powerheads is by modulating the frequency. This is complicated and expensive. The only controller out there for use with aquariums that can do this is the Seio Multicontroller

Right I've come to a decision, the tank isnt massively loud but its to loud with the maxijet 1200 to be sat in the front room.
I'm going to put the stock back in untill my dining room is built then move the tank to the dining room with the maxijet

now my question is this will I be ok with the stock pump + plus the nano pump? Cheato is doing well and im doing 10% water change each week.
If thats not ok, im going to have to move it upstairs to keep the maxijet in and then move it back down when the dining rooms done.

all im going to have in for the time being is clean up crew and 2 clowns

to be honest there is not that much difference between the 266gph stock pump and the 295 gph MJ pump just over 1 x turn over per hour not really worth the Hassel in my opinion, my tank is set up exactly the same as yours with the stock & a nano pump + cheato refuge I have 4 x fish 6 crabs 6 snails a shrimp & 4 corals so far and my water parameters are very good nitrates 0 and all I do is change 2.5 gallons per week plus wash out filter pads ect and that’s it so yeah its possible

Right thats it then, my maxijets are going on ebay and im buying my fish next week. might stick another nano in to get more flow behind the rocks.

oh and theres a hairy gray rock colour crab and i think its eat my turbo snails

right the stock pump is back in and the tank is in the spare room until our dining room is sorted
got no fish yet, but got some hemits and more shrimp

also had some turbo snails, but something ate them and I think I caught it today.

havent got any fish yet as my temps hit 30c but i think i have got on top of it now

foreskin worm on top of the rock, it retracts into its self when the light comes on
hermit shred its skin within 2 days of having it

that looks like a guerrilla crab to me, they can get quite destructive. Very nice tank GJ
