Here's my set-up as planned.

1 5 gallon Eclipse Hex w/ bio wheel
Ebo-Jager 50W heater

This is for "possibly" 2 male bettas, I will be cutting a one of those acrylic mesh dividers down to size to fit into the tank.

Was going to run the tank for perhaps a week, will not be using live plants.

Well, on to the question. Am I missing anything? I'll be using bottled spring water, will probably change 75% of the water after a week of the tank cycling, then in go the bettas.

Betta #1 is definite.

Betta #2 is a maybe, depending on what you all think about keeping two with a divider and my current set-up as planned.

Let me know what you all think!

BOTM BOTM BOTM BOTM my god if u get nominated U GOT MY VOTE.

Just an fyi if you haven't yet purchased your heater - a 25 watt would be much safer in that small of a tank. 50 watts is really too much and you'd run the risk of cooking the fishies.

Also a note - if the divider is see-through, two males will probably constantly flare at each other for awhile (days, weeks) until they just quit because they are used to each other. However, if you want them to flare on occasion, I'd say make sure you get something opaque. Maybe even two sheets so you can lift one when you wish.

Beautiful fish, I'm curious - where are they coming from?

They look like Maximus' (SomchaiBettas) breeds from aquabid. I ordered a black devil crowntail from him for $15, +$7shipping from bangkok, then $34 shipping from CA to AZ (where I live). The fish was DOA in CA. I got the $15 refunded for the fish, but I lost out on the $7 shipping. I'm just glad it died in CA rather than on my door, cause I would've been out $41 shipping by that point. That's when I decided, no more online fish ordering, to re-ship it, I'd have been up to $96 for one fish.

As for the divider, julie is spot on, your bettas will eventually just stop flaring, which sucks. It's best to have a permanent clear divider, and a removable opaque divider. Remember with a divider though, the filter flow can end up only working efficiently on one side of the tank. I use 2 little sponge filters, one on each side, of my 5.5 gallon split betta set up. Also, if you're not doing water changes, your tank is eventually gonna get nitrate/nitrite spikes from cycling, I think, since you aren't cycling it beforehand. Just something to consider.

Onnnne more thing, if you keep just a clear divider at all times, the blue/white crowntail might end up splitting his tail from too much vigorous flaring. I had that happen to one of my crowns (halfmoons are notorious for this) and he's still healing up.

One is Maxximus and one is Ammara, both from Thailand. I can't wait to see them in person!

Perhaps I shall just get two 2.5's?

Only one side of the tank will be filtered if it's divided, perhaps two 2.5's is the best bet . They're beautiful bettas, best of luck

The usual rule is 5 watts per gallon, and I would say yeah it is too small... But, at Wal-Mart they sell $6 junior heaters for 2-5 gallon tanks.

WHY doenst none second the nomination for that betta. Whats wrong with u people.

When male bettas see each other they get excited. Their colors will intensify and they won't be bored. They will also be more active. (ive used a divided tank with male bettas, I've seen ths happen with mine :p ) Your second betta is # 1 and the first is #2 on my list of favorite bettas. They're awesome. I like the red white and blue  (dont tell my betta any thing I said about yours being cooler :D )

I'll second the nomination on the black devil for BOTM if it comes to him alive. If it's DOA before he even has it like mine was, it's like we're voting for a betta out of a catalogue that no one owns. But they are both absolutely gorgeous.

i'd second the nomination as well although it looks like 55 has already submitted for you. from a technical standpoint though, if you haven't got the bettas yet one can assume they are not then your own pics right? personally, i'd wait to take your own pics of the fish before putting them in for consideration. just a thought ;)

Yes bkk, that's right. The betta can't enter into the BOTM until it's in BCTB's possesion and they submit their own pic.
