I've recently sought advice about adding a betta to my current stock. The advice was mixed with most saying not to chance it so I decided I'd forget about it.
Then today I was in my lfs buying filter wool and of course I had to have a browse when I came across this little betta with his fins all torn. The lfs guy said they had him a few weeks and people wouldn't buy him because his fins weren't long and lustrous. He had moved him as he was tormented in his original tank.
I just couldn't leave him there. I got the guy to get a mirror and hold it up in front of him to see if he would attack but he had a look and went on his way. Yes, the guy thought I was crazy.
Anyway, he's in his new home now and seems to have settled in rather quickly. All fishies are chilled out at the moment. I noticed he's resting every now and then against my filter intake bars. He's not getting sucked in, he swims over and chills there. Is this normal behaviour? I thought they didn't like strong current?
Sorry about the long-winded post. I really posted to ask if I should leave him alone or is there anything I should do to help his fins?
Thanks guys! :good:

Both my males ive had liked to chill against the inlet bars, freaked me out at first but its normal, i a piece of my tights over it to stop their fins going through.

For his fins you will need to do regular water changes.

Thanks Beanz8. The tights idea is a good one. Yeah I was freaked out when I saw him do it first, I thought he was dead! He seems content this morning and ate well. How often do you reckon with the water changes? I do 30% weekly but should I do it every other day until he heals?
Should I also add meds?

I have corys, platys, a molly, neon tetras, lamb chop rasboras, bolivian rams. I took some pics so when I get a chance I'll try post them though I'm challenged in that dept! He looked quite dull yesterday but this evening he looks really colourful. Is that possible or am I imagining things?

Nope they often lose their colour when being transported/stressed. I saw someone on here post some pictures of a new betta just a few hours apart and the difference in their colour was amazing!

Ah that's great, hopefully he's happy. He's active and eating well so far.
