Hi all,

after losing my sweet betta this week, I got another male betta the other day. He is a dark blue, Veiltail I believe, although could be a combo of something else as his fins seem thick and close together....any way he is very beautiful!

Also he is tiny in comparison to the other two bettas I have had in the past. How old are bettas sold in most fish stores? I got him at Petco and am wondering if he could be a young fish. Anyway he seems small.

When I first fed him the Hikari betta pellets, he acted as if he had never been fed pellets before. Took him a long time to eat them.

The thing that concerns me is.....unless I am totally blind, I can't seem to find any poo at the bottom of his bowl, making me worried that he will become sick. Is this normal for a new fish? It's been about two days since I got him and don't see any poo. Maybe I should start him on a pea to be safe.

Thanks for any input!

Bettas are sold at all different ages, a lot of it depends on the supplier.
Does your Betta seem bloated at all? If he isn't then I wouldn't worry to much. It's worth giving him a pea anyway just to prevent him becoming bloated. Try feding him a pea at least once a week instead of his normal food.

Does your Betta look bloated at all? If so, then try feeding him a pea and see if that helps. If not, then maybe your not looking hard enough. Do you have gravel in your tank? Sometimes gravel can hide Betta waste. I know it does for my Bettas.

well at my local petco they feed their bettas frozen brine shrimp I think. not to be rude but maybe your betta is not used to pellets and likes the taste of brine shrimp better :look:

Mine was small as well when I got him and his finnage was also a little short compared to other bettas (and go figure I got him from Petco too). Since then, he's probably grown about 50% in size...so yours is probably just a young one. I've noticed that the Petco near me also tends to get bettas on the smallish side.

thanks all for your input!

Anyway, my little betta pooped so I am happy, lol guess I was overly concerned.

Now I just have to come up with a name!
