I have been reading all of your posts on the fighting fish and unfortunately have caught the bug. My lfs has just got a load of new crowntails in and i have reserved one. It has a cream coloured body with dark freckles and torquoise fins. They are all kept in large jars which i am purchasing too to stand on a small heat mat that i used to use for a small terrarium. The guy at the shop says they always keep their bettas in these jars and change 50% of ther water every week, although they have no heating. They look happy and healthy. I am currently making my own filter using a pump for a small indoor waterfall so the flow rate is very low and will be perfect for the betta when it is complete. Until then does everythin i have planned sound ok, the only difference being that i will change the water more regularly.
Cheers
Chris
your set up should be pretty good, though not sure about the size of it....
anyway, welcome to the support group for betta addicts. GGBS (gotta get a betta syndrome) will take full hold soon and you will find yourself buying another shortly
Well the little chap is home and happy. He has filled up nicely on live brine shrimp and daphnia and eagerly checking out all of his surroundings. The jar is designed for bettas and seems to hold a fair amount of water (i havent yet converted to gallons but its about two litres). He is so nice, and conveniently my digital camera arrived this morning so a piccy will be posted some time tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled.
about a 1/2 gal. should feel comfy and secure (my bettas are all in 1 gal tank, and they seem to prefer it over the 2 gal, strangely enough they only ever made bubblenest when they were in the 1/2 gal dual betta hexes )
you'll have to post pics soon as we fellow betta lovers love to see others pics
