i bought 2 baby oscars they are about 1-2 inches each. i have them in a 15g right now waiting for them to get bigger to go into a 60g tank. at the store they were really active swimming around and everything. but when i got them into the new tank they hide behind the rocks and dont come out. ive never had any of my fish do that. should this cease soon or is something wrong. this is the 2nd day ive had them.

Oscars do something called " Sulking" inm wich they are dead nervous and wont eat. This can go on for week's. They will outgrow that tank in about 1 or so month's. You also might want to do very frequent water chagnes ad you filter wont be able to keeep up with teh bio-load those oscars will be putting on it.

Agreed, its common for baby oscars to sulk, I have personally experienced this in the last week. Got my baby oscar, as you said all friendly and welcoming at the shop, got it home and it just sat on the bottom under the filter for 2 days. It finally ate a wrigling worm at the end of the 2nd day, and now for the past 3-4 days been great, always shooting out to the front as soon as it sees me and just being fun.

Give it time and your oscar will come around. On another note, 60G may only be enough for 1 oscar, especially if they are both male, one will probably kill/injure the other in that amount of space.

Spot on! Exspecially about the 2 males thing. If they ae 2 males, they can and will kill eachother. But probably not until 7 inches or so. If they are mael+ female, do the math( babies). If they are both females then no fihgting. Most people will say it is 2 small, but i personally put a oscar in a 40 to 45. That isnt good advice, but it is my oppinion( i would have a but load of filtration by the way!). I would say that 2 oscars in a 55 is pushing it, but you can make the decision.

If you do get one of each sex, there is no guarantee they will pair up, and one may still kill the other in such a small tank. Again, two females have the potential to be aggressive to each other, though as you say not nearly as much as two males, but I would just watch out for this.

As you say 40G is too small for an oscar, with 2 in a 55 gallon I think is being cruel.

about them "sulking". they are very nervous when im around. they do come out when im there but if i make quick movements its back to the rocks for them. how big should they get in about a month exactly? i think ill put them in the 60 when they outgrow the 15. but as you said it may be cruel for 2 big oscars in a 60 so i still got to figure out what they do. right now im thinking of a oscar pond outdoor. i live in fl it doesnt get very cold but idk ill think about it.

I would expect a growth of 1" a month for a baby oscar, providing its had the right diet, water changes etc.
