New Addition Today (with Pics)

Thats not a Bristlenose. I think it may be a blue seam and or L183. Looks about 2"? The guy at the pet shop doesnt know his fish all too well if he thinks thats a bristlenose.

Bristlenose is a generic term for the Ancistrus genus. I am quite sure L183 is an Ancistrus species so it may then be called a bristlenose. :good:

Perhps it is a strain of bristlenose. I just use own a L183 some 4 years ago, cant remember much but it didnt have any bristles and stayed the same colour. It died at 5" when a lava rock fell on it after a fighter jet went past and broke the sound barrier. Shook the house and fish tank. Weird eh?

Man that really is a friek accident. Lucky it didn't break the tank.

Female bristlnoses often don't have bristles and if they do they are smaller and just around the lip not up on the nose.

Just for the sake of information here is a link to L183 info.

i think its called a peppermint bristlenose here in oz. i saw them at an aquarium last week. i think i rememebered it right :) i think they are stunning. i saw some at a lfs the other day for $19.95. so they arent cheap. i am considering getting some through the wholesaler at work so i get them for a LOT less.

$20 is a bargain at a LFS. That is hardly more than the wholesale on a 3cm one. These guys are going for $10 per cm in private sales for non-breeding adults and about $450 for a breeding trio. I don't even want to think about the price of an an adult in a LFS.

Here is a picture of a 3cm one I just got off the breeder.

stunning pleco- love the blue on them, I want one!

I think the "blue" is a bit decieving. They are really just white but it is so white it looks blue. They are easy to spot in the tank because their white fin tips and spots really stand out.

iv usualy seen them here for about $40, sometimes $20 but rarely. hawkins, one of my many lfs has just got some orange spot in for $20, i am thinking about getting a few of those.

Beautiful plec, I picked up three more BN's today and have come away with what look like 3 different varieties, one is just plain plec with white fin edging, another piebald and one normal.
