I bought 4 julii corys around a month ago now and they have settled in really well.

Nothing much bothers them except when someone approaches the Tank. They will make a mad dash for cover. Could this be because there is only 4?

No not because you have only 4 cories in your tank. Cories usually dash away and hiding when a peson near by.
You could approching the fish very slow or when feeding time sit and watching them near by once they get used to and trust that no one will harm them, they will stay around and waiting for you to give them food. :shout: :shout: :hyper: :hyper:

Except my Corydoras semiaquilus always sitting on front and hardly swim away [ I called them Beach whale].

My fake Julii Cories which were actually C.trilineatus were also very shy, till they died. I don't know why though. I started of with 4 and the gradually it got down to 1, so i took him back to the shop becasue they had cories of his kind there. Even when i had 4 they werent the most active fish ever. Do they have somewhere to hide?

it does take time with corydoras trilineatus, mine took months to get used to me, they were extremely shy when i first bought them about 5 months ago, but are good now.

they do get used to you, but the bigger the group the less shy they will be.

Thanks for the replys everyone :)

They have loads of places to hide (quite heavily planted). They are very active and nothing else seems to bother them.

I guess it will just take time.

Is there a way to tell fake juliis (C.trilineatus) from real corydoras julii?

Hmmm. Let's see. Been in the hobby 50+ years. Have never seen a "true" C. julii. They are all misidentified. I'm still looking, though. - Frank

P.S. Hey, but don't give up hope. The last 6 times I bought C. adolfoi, they were C. duplicareus. Today, I actually got a dozen C. adolfoi, that, lo and behold, are actually the real thing. Will Cory wonders never cease???

There was a guy on Ebay who claimed to stock both genuine Julii and trilenatus his user name was sunderlandaquatics they were about £20 for 5 If i remember rightly but I had just bought some fake julii so I didn't bother following it up

but in his message he seemed adament he had genuine Julii and knew what he was talking about, this was a few weeks ago now though

probably come to nothing but its at least worth an email if you are searching for the real deal!

It's not hard to get hold of them if you really want them, I know someone who imports julii. You just wont find them in your lfs.

Also, wild caught corydoras can be skittish like that for a while. If they are shipped to you, they can also be skittish. Ive had some of mine for 4-6 months and they will still scatter if I move up to the tank to quickly. Then again, I have some C. weitzmani I got a couple weeks ago (cant remember the exact date) and they never swim off when they see me. They just sit there with that look on their face, "wheres the food?"
