Hey I have just bought 11 neons and they have been fairly quiet.... they have been hiding basically all day
behind the same rock..... will they get more active or have i done something wrong...?>???

Thanks

Hello.

If your stats are fine then..

Similar thing happened to me, but I have only 5. You have a nice big shoal of them there and it should be great for them.

Give them time to settle in with each other and thier surroundings and to get used to any routines, such as feeding and lighting regemes and in a couple of weeks they'll become more settled. They'll start to shoal, chase each other, explore. Best of all, when they are settle as a group, they become very nosey... as a group!

Don't worry.

Andy

As far as the hiding....you don't have any aggressive fish in the tank and you just put them in there and have a nice shoal, so I'm pretty sure they just need to settle in. I just bought 12 last night and they are just now this night coming out and exploring/shoaling around more.

My problem is some of mine aren't eating the bits of flake that make it down to them from the top. Are yours eating? It has been a really long time since I kept them and remember keeping some small pellets that sank that I fed them but I don't remember whether they liked this or the regular flakes more. Maybe mine just need to settle in too.

BTW - you might be a "newbie" but you have one of the best looking tank setups I have EVER seen. I gave you a 9. :good:

I have 6 neons, and what I like about them is that they always get the bits of food that the other top feeders have missed and the neons get the food thats on it's way sinking about half way down. Also when they were new to thetank they all stayed really close together, now that they are confident they swim all apart all over the place.

You're welcome. It really is a truely nice tank setup and especially since you're new at this. You hit the mark with the look of it.....many people can't do that their whole lives with a fish tank. lol

I really wish mine would have looked THAT great when I first started. But then I was like 6.

Anyway....yea any type cory is perfect with neons and platies and you could try many types of smaller tetras, danios, rasboras, etc. Anything that isn't too aggressive or large enough to fit them in its mouth.

The only thing about cories is they need sand to really thrive....they have a heavy burrowing instinct....will sometimes bury their whole heads down in the sand snuffling around for bits of something to eat. Its a big part of their appeal if you ask me.

I myself am at a crossroads with that. I feel playsand is highly reflective of light and it "lights up" a little too much and distracts from the main attraction of the tank which to me is the fish themselves. So I was thinking of putting black gravel in there until I can afford Tahitian Moon black sand (which could be a while). But....if I do that I don't want to put cories in there as they wouldn't be as happy because the gravel (I would imagine) hurts when they try to dig down into it.
