Need To Rant About Work

I had a interview at petsmart a few months ago. Almost had the job if it wasent for the fact I needed to work 2 until I could claim the health benifits at petsmart. The one I was looking at is pretty good, I have had good expeniances and the staff is ok (some are not to knowledgeable) but I have helped alot of people at that one when I visit and they are always thankful (I often sell 30+ bucks of supplies). Its a shame that the other petsmart by me is so horrible. The manager told me off for telling a customer that 40 gallons is to small for a single Bala Shark. I said that the need groups of 5+ and they need 100+ gallons. She said that I conflicted with there info and thus I shouldn't tell people info. I also helped a group setting up there first tank. They has aquarium salt in there hands and I explained it was mainly used to cure some diseases and to add salinity to tanks for some brackish fish. I also said that many scaleless fish such as oto/cory/etc are harmed by this and it burns them. Right after I finished talking and I walked off a employee ran up to them and said I was wrong.

Kinda glad I never got that job.

I said that they would need marine salt to them but I also said I wasn't 100% sure. Mainly told them they didn't need it and it would be a waste of money.

b]ammonia is a kind of bacteria[/b].

The isolation facilities are on a centralised system.

You should try to find a job at a locally owned store instead of a chain store. In the end it's all about the $$ with these guys.

All we have near by is a ropey Maidenhead Aquatics, P@H and a rubbish little pet shop that doesn't seem to know what they are talking about.

That's really too bad. Senior staff can be a little hard on new guys. I was a little bit the same when I started working at one of my LFS. A senior staff member once tried to tell me off very sternly because I told a guy his tank was too small and would most likely stunt the fish he was looking at (can't remember the what he wanted too long ago.) She tried to tell me tank size has nothing to do with it, only water quality and nutrition  These maybe can play a roll in but tank size is also a large factor. I came in with a pretty good basic knowledge on fish keeping so I did alright though ;) Once someone new starts they will ease up on you trust me.

The icing on the cake?

The female bettas I got from work introduced columnaris into my tank. All 6 died, as did two of my three 'original' (and very special) girls.

Just trying to stop it from killing the last one.

Wow, I'm outta work right now and I was thinking about applying to both Petsmart and Petco, but now I'm scared. I thought perhaps I could do some good because I'm in the hobby and would know more than the average highschool student, but I would never be able to put up with management treating me that way. I guess I will apply anyway and let them know that right off the bat and see what happens? Because if they expect me to just sell fish into the wrong kind of environment it will never work, because I won't.!
