Ok heres the deal I thought of a DIY backround using acryl;ic glass peeble rock and bigger rock. I decided to try this and I made the back round using GE silicone 2 to glue the rocks to the acrylic. I thought I could do the same with suction cups to the back of the acrylic to hold it on the back glass but when I woke up this morning the suction cups didnt seem to stay glued on the just feel right off the rock is fine not going anywhere so now im crossed between just siliconing the backround str8 the glass on the tank or looking for some glue to hold the suction cups in place. I have a few questions here If i did silicone the Backround to the glass can I get it back off at a later date without destroying my tank and how could you get it off? the other question is what kind of glue is safe for under water use in aquariums?

any suggestions would help I dont want to have done all this hard work on the backround for nothing it looks good.

Silicone can be an absolute nightmare to get off. I think there is stuff available to dissolve it, but then you will have to be careful not to get it on the seals of the tank for obvious reasons.

What about getting some suckers like these ones pictured below

You could then drill holes in the acrylic and push the little end caps through so that they are fixed securely. Your background will then be firmly stuck to the back of your tank and should also allow for relatively easy removal for cleaning purposes or if you decide you want to change it in the future.

Just remember to drill the holes and do the suction cups before you stick any rocks on the front. You could also silicone the suckers in place too, but since the cups lose their suction after a while, it might be a pain in the backside replacing them, so Id avoid doing that if possible. ;)

That's one idea anyway.

thanx for the suggestion I tryed using suction cups like those I tried siliconing them to back of the acrylic because I didnt think about doing what u said on drilling holes and I alreaddy put the rock on. The silicone didnt seem to work at all to stabalize the cups on the back of the acrylic they just feel off. I went on ahead and took the chance and siliconed the Back round to the tank I like it looks good so I dont see my self taking the back round off anytime soon but if i need to I will deal with it then but thank you for the advice and heads up on the silicone much appreciated.

I have also siliconed my background on but mine is polystyrene but it looks great and sticks nicely, you should be fine. Im adding water soon to my new tank.
