Can anyone recommend something that will go into detail for each species regarding the water requirements like ph and temperature, tank mates, tank size, etc. Like an encyclopedia of tropical fish?

Yep as above :) seriously fish is a fantastic resource. A few others I'm partial to are planet catfish and loaches.com (if you are looking for info on catfish or loaches :) ). There is a really good rainbow fish site too a few people reference but I cant remember the name of it...

If you wanted to go for books I'd recommend any of the Aqua Log books which are really interesting reference books. Heiko Bleher is a really famous author and his books are great too.

If you are looking for info on fish and how to keep them there are some good youtube channels out there but there are also a lot of bad ones but its worth looking for channels you like and that you feel are well backed up by reliable sources like seriously fish.

Baensch's Aquarium Atlas (Freshwater fishes), volume 1, (it has a group of cardinal tetras on the front cover) is a book available in soft cover and hard cover and has information about water chemistry, diseases, plants and a heap of common freshwater fish. There are several more volumes and they cover more unusual species of fish and plants. The books are available for freshwater and saltwater fishes so get the fresh water ones if they interest you. You might be able to find them at the library or check on Ebay or Amazon (Ebay is usually cheaper if you don't mind secondhand books).

The following link is about Australian and New Guinea rainbowfishes and is the most comprehensive review of those fishes. It covers every species currently known.

Thanks so much for the recommendations. I appreciate it!
