hi peeps
I was wondering, well i'll give you a brief outline,my 3 year old son, decided on monday that he wanted to feed my fish with his readybrek and poured a whole bowl into my fish tank, I walked into the room just as he was pouring, after screaming at him I raced over and quickly pulled the filter out, and began empting the water, I phoned the pet shop as I was doing this and they said that I need to empty the water and clean the gravel, so I did this(it took for ever) I caught all the fish which was really hard, there fast little things and then once emptied I clean the stone as best I could and then refilled, but upon filling half way I noticed that as I was pouring the water in, it was kicking loads of readybrek up, everdently I hadn't got it all, so I emptied it all again but it after washing again and refilling there was little bits it ready brek still there, so i've decided to throw the stones and replace them, but on wednesday I noticed my female sword tail looking it bit down and then this morning I noticed that her tail was bent down the way and they the edgeds where a bit frayed and then in the last hour she started to floating on her side, and died. I did a water cheak and everything is "ideal" could she have been stressed out by all the coming and going? or could there be something else underlining it??

any help would be very useful...

thank you

just thought I'd add

ph 7.0
Ammonia 0.0mg/I
Nitrite 0.0mg/I
nitrate 0.0mg/I

so i gather thats ok
I was looking on the web and the symptoms are like Mucus Hyperproduction but the Nitrates/nitrites are fine....

Looks fine, but very odd that you have zero nitrates ? All tanks "generally" have nitrates - or else your fish are not producing waste
Nitrates can be as low as 5 but on average range around 20 all the way up to around 60 which is fine. What does your tapwater test for nitrate ?

I would say your swordie died due to some severe stress. What are the other fish like ? How long has the tank been up and running ?

over all, fish are great and are all eating fine, a few are very fat, especially my black widows and mickies..... my test kit is a colour chart one and I can only go by the colour given and the reading says 0mg/L "ideal water conditions"... the other fish are not showing any symptoms... could it be a simple case of stress. none of the other fish seem to be stressed by it... I did notice that the sword tail was off her food and staying close to the bottom she wasnt gasping or anything like that and the tank has been established 8 months with me and was set up by a friend of the ours who set the tank up about 6 months before that(cycled)...

Ah in that case I'd say it's almost certainly just pure stress and perhaps some readybrek she digested that didn't go down well :(

can the ready break do any harm, just in case any other fish have eaten any what do I need to look out for if it is bad...
