Ok so I got a red tailed shark and 3 silver dollars in a 20 gallon 24" long because I thought I was able to get a bigger tank in a few months but turns out I can't. What should I do? I would feel really bad returning them but should i return all but the red tail or all the fish and get new ones? And can i keep 1 silver dollar and the red tail and add a dwarf gourami to it or would it be bad to keep all the fish in there and not get any more?

Ive read that the shark will do fine it it tho and he is my favorite fish :(
What about the silver dollars? Should the go ️also :(

Return all the fish, then you should check on here before buying any new ones so that you don't get ones that won't do well.

I'm sorry things didn't go the way you'd of liked, I know you had your heart set on keeping at least one, but I didn't think it would work out.

At least look at it this way, the fish will be much happier in a bigger tank and unfortunately you cannot provide them this at the moment. Once you get your bigger tank, after properly cycling it you can go back to your LFS for some more silver dollars and RTS.

I know it's upsetting because you do get attached to the fish, but you need to think of what is best for them.

People on here are always more than happy to help and can advise you on appropriate stocking for your 20g, good luck!

PS you will have to keep us updated, especially when you do eventually get your big tank all set up :)

Ok I've been looking again and yea it was my bad to keep them in the first place :( but what would be good fish I mean I was think 1 caribe piranha but there are no care sheets :(

There is information on them, but you need to search for solid information using Latin names not the common one. In this case you are likely looking for information on Pygocentrus cariba  http://www.opefe.com/cariba.html  or http://www.piranhaforum.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/250-pygocentrus-cariba/ or http://www.aquascapeonline.com/prodview.asp?idproduct=57

These fish should be kept in groups in a larger tank and keepers know to be very careful about putting their hands into such a tank. You can lose a finger.

I own 3 red belly piranhas in a 55gallon and I've read they do fine alone in groups of 3 or 5+ on almost every website and my tank other tank not the one with my ps is it is 24" long so not that long lol

So would it be ok to buy a piranha and what's the best species (I love red belly I just want to try caribe)

I wouldn't put any form of piranha in a 24" tank. Even a 55 gallon is too small in my opinion.
