Need Educated Opinions

Odd, goes against my experience of them, they're territorial fish that are generally well behaved as juveniles and then become quite strongly territorial once they reach a certain size.

Yours would still be juvenile at that size, TO11. As Rob says, their temperament changes as they mature.

I would say there is always a risk in having a rainbow shark. It's entire up to him if hes gonna be mean or good :p

Tends to go for anything sharing his level of the tank though.

Hmm, ill be keeping an eye on him when he gets bigger, i love him but im not going to get rid of the rest if he is aggressive :/
Apologies to OP for pinching the spotlight :/

So sharks or tetras or danios... what about the american and new world cichlids? ive been told some are peaceful

You stated you wanted a 'shoal' of fish.  Cichlids aren't exactly a shoaling fish.

Some SA cichlids are very peaceful, at least with other fish, less so with their own kind.

Actually I said either a single fish or a schooling fish :)

I must have missed that part.

Its okay :) My biggest fish is my syno... but hes been in the tank since he was about an inch long. and hes about 7-8 inches now and he doesnt pick on any of my fish

Single, for those tank mates, in those conditions, not orange.

Personally, Thorichthys Ellioti, but I do love those things. I suppose a firemouth would also be an option. Wouldn't really require much by way of care at all, apart from feeding them, unless they breed, which isn't an issue for a single fish.

The blue acara is also an option, as is the rainbow cichlid.

Although they only get to about two inches I think some cherry barbs could hold their own in your tank sounds like a great setup! But ya I love my cherries they aren't orange & although small can ward off more aggressive fish w/o being too aggressive themselves! Let us know what you choose!

arent barbs fin nippers?

I'd hate to get a fish and have to return it shortly after for bullying/nipping my swords :(
