Lovely Doubletail  and I might be completely wrong but it looks female to me.

Are both pictures the same fish!!!! one looks copper one looks blue either way they both or that one looks female to me too, a very nice double tail!

Doubtail, and i think looks female like netty said. I too thought there were two different fish :fun:

Just seen that 2nd pic....what a gorgeous colour

nope...all one fish. i fumbled with the camera settings but the 2nd pic was taken after he was released

thanks for letting me know its a double tail. this is new to me! appreciate the comments too

Is this a straight DT female or a DTxVT female? I have seen DT females that do not have anywhere near the fin length of this fish. She's beautiful though... will you spawn her?

So everyone agrees this is a female?? i would like to cross this with a crowntail or something but right now i dont have the tanks to do so!

yep its a girl, and a very pretty dt as is. when u breed dt u cant bred 2 dts, it has a strange mix to the dna and makes fed up babies with deformitys... so most bredders use a good dt and a normal of whatever type it is,, the dt gene is expresed over whatever the base type is and your female looks to be a vt, veil tail, base with the dt, double tail, added on.

so dt/vt base would get crossed with a vt, the nicest and most colorful one they have.. then the resulting babies look mostly like the base genes, but with hidden dna, so the bredder picks the best baby and breeds it back to the parent and the result of the 2nd generation is perfect dts!!

that just what i have read so any other ideas are appericated.

but i have no idea what you would get if you crossed ur female witha ct.....

You mean, the Breeder picks the best out of the spawn and breeds it again when its grown with the parent?

Isn't that inbreeding? Which would eventually result in just a weak, if not deformed fish or is that how DT's came of existance?

It's fine to breed siblings or back to parents up to about 5 generations then you would have to bring new blood in.

We've already put one of our girls back to her Dad and the spawns we currently have we will be picking the best siblings and putting them together.
