I was putting Bulldog back into his bowl using a fishnet and the little bugger jumped right out of the net and into the sink! He nearly went down the drain! I don't know if the tap water harmed him. I had to try to pick him up from the drainguard but it was very tight quarters. He now has a ripped anal fin. :/ Looks like it was nipped and has holes link he swam through mini-flak fire. I have him in a cleared up bowl with BettaFix.... He's really pale in the tummy area.... :/

OMG Itty Bitty Betta!! What a close call that was!

If he didn't have hot water run on him, or anything like that, he'll probably recover before too long.

What is BettaFiX? Does it say it will help heal torn fins? If not, another helpful product you can get for him is called StressCoat and that is used to restore the fish's slime coating and help heal fins.

Good luck with Bulldog. I hope he gets well soon!

Stresscoat! Yes! Thanx! bbl! Gotta go get some..... :)

Nuts.... Missed the pet shop by 15 minutes....

Instructions:
Add Splendid Betta BettaFix Remedy directly to Betta Bowl. **Use 6 drops per pint(473ml), 12 drops per quart (946ml), or 1/2 teaspoonful (2.5ml) per U.S. Gallon of Betta bowl water. **Repeat dose daily for up to seven days before making a water change. Treatment may be repeated if necessary.

Does this mean NO WATER CHANGE for at least a week?

It could mean that after 7 days you have to make a water change because it says UP TO 7 days.

But then it means he'll be floating in his waste :/

No, Itty Bitty Betta, that sounds awful.

I think it means that you can do it only for 7 days tops. Then you MUST do a water change. But since is says treat it for "up to" 7 days I think it means that if you want to change the water before that, it's ok to do it. :)

Ahhhhhhhhh so!!! :)
Cool.
Dang. Now Bulldog looks like a REAL fighting fish, not just a prettyboy. B)

I think you might need to sit down and take a few deep breaths, Itty Bitty Betta, this incident has you more upset than the fish probably is.

humm.........do they make spiked collars for bettas? Just kidding!

I need to get a specimen basin and use that to net them instead of just pouring them out of their jars.

Itty,
The grand champion I am always talking about, he lost a Half Moon betta down a garbage disposal once. He said he never empties his fish water over the sink anymore.

Neither will I anymore! I'll just pour them gently into a large bowl or specimen container like they do in the shops and scoop them from there.

I heard because fish are cold-blooded, the human hand is like one big hot coal to them. Is this true?

Well I don't believe that but the real damage of the "human hand" is that it removes the slime layer from their bodies. And without that "slime armor" you are just asking for trouble.

Oh sure, I could just tell myself "yeah, it's only a stupid fish so it wouldn't matter what happens to him", but still, I guess I've grown really attached to them right away, even though they keep running away from me. Lots of things crossed my mind - none of them pleasant for the fish. :( But in the end, the promise I made was that they would die naturally either through old age or a disease that I could not stop within my own powers - not by accident. Bulldog ain't the prettiest, but he's the most tenacious and the FIRST fish I ever had. I've had a dog and a few parakeets before, but never a fish and they seem more delecate and fragile than any pet I could think of. Maybe I am too clumsy to handle fish. I should have started out with a pet rock or a pencil or something....
