I have had my 20 gallon running for almost 8 months. It is cycled and the fish seem to be doing good but I have been fighting a losing battle with the color of my water. It looks brown and everything I do doesn't seem to be helping. I do water changes, and have tried almost every product on thge market to clear it up. today I added and air stone and a large sponge filter to work in conjuction with the internal filter I have. If anyone has any suggestion as to what I can do I would greatly appreciate it. This is the first tank I have had that has done this. my 2.5 gallon is crystal clear and the tanks I have had in the past have never had this problem

I see you have oscars! in your 20 gallon oscars grow at least 16" and one needs a tank of at least 75 gallons the reason your water is probably brown is to much waste is being produce

unless you have a proper home for these fish i sugest you return them and restock your tank

also dont listen to people from the pet store ask questions here lol

I try to do 2 to 3 water changes a week. I know my Oscars are going to get big, and I have thought about giving them away and starting over. I have a 55 gallon waiting to be set up for the oscars. they are about 3 to 4 inches at the moment. and seeing as I work for a pet supply closeout company I can get a larger tank at any time.

I know the lfs she goes to and they are extremely good up there... they won't even sell you the fish till they take you through a series of rigourous questions and determine you are a responsible fish keeper lol..... and oddly enough they told her pretty much what you did regarding the waste... second opinions never hurt !

lol well i dunno do what u wish but if i were u id sell the 3 oscars that u can part with and keep one in your 55 along with your other bottom feeders

for 4 you need like a 420 gallon lol i know there small but still

I know that I may have to get rid of my Oscars. As much as I and everyone else in the house loves them. I have had one of them, Savannah Rose, since she was not more than an inch long.

yes I understand they are very cool fish my friends had to part with his also after growing them out in a 33gallon long then sold them off to a better home

but as said above if u want to keep em just do tons of water changes until ur 55 is ready

Yes but no one noticed SheaWhiteWolf has 4 goldfish in a 2.5 gallon! That is wrong. Too wrong.
LOL didn't notice that, I was distracted by the FOUR oscars!!! I agree, wrong choice of fish.

gold fish in bowls is not right they produce way to much waste and they simply get too huge

She failed to mention although I'm not sure it would make a difference on here.. That the gold fish in question are simple comets that were saved from a fate of being lunch.

She came in here for help and all she got was blasted... Now that's what is not right.. sorry folks!!!

SWW came in here and asked why her water was bad. It seems its bad because six messy, unsuitably housed fish are in it, sorry if I seemed rude.
