Hi..with the help of our members, I would like to place a nano fish list in the pinned section. Since there will NEVER be total agreement on this, I would like to break this up into categories. I think the best way to do this would be:

1) considered easy
2) Moderate or intermediate
3) Difficult

I don't think it would help to break it down by species.

Feel free to list your nano fish and I will cull ideas and your input into a pin.
Thanks.

SH

PS...I would also be happy to place links from your input to any fish in our TFF Index.

so what are you actually after?

a list of fish or profiles as per the existing marine section?

I can't see much point just having a list of fish without any additional info on compatibility etc

Do maroons make good Nanos? I know they get large but the babies are so brilliant and think about having one in my 13 gallon someday.

Members are always looking for what make good nano fish...it is not meant to be profiles..simple a list of general categories to give them an idea what could go and then they can research it. SH

What ever happened to this idea? I need more diversity in my tank and am clueless....But im sure most of you know this from my many, many posts asking stupid questions about everything I encounter.

yeah me too.

Ive got a 13 gallon (with all that rock and sand though who knows how much there really is though) and Im totally floundering at what or how much I can put in here.

At first I was thinking your typical firefish or perc. Now Im thinking a really really brillian Maroon clown (tiny) and maybe a jawfish. Had one of those before and it hid most of the time so even though theyre beautiful, Im not sure if I want a fish I dont see again. Now Im thinking a royal g. or possibly even a lion fish...dwarf. This tank, due to its size will be primarily used for inverts though.

How many fish for a "13" gallon? I wish my math was better. I have over 20 lbs of rock in there and another 15 lbs of sand Im sure. Need to weigh this stuff out. Im wondering how much water I actually have in there.

Would any such list perhaps benefit from some separation on the size of the tank?

For example, many preds (small frogfish, dwarf lions) would be ok in a 20 gallon, but not really anything smaller.

Why dont you post the fish like they have in the "oddballs for under 20gal"?

"Badis badis. Max size 3", suitable for tanks of 20g and upwards"

Your avatar is friggen hilarious.

Your idea is a good one.

I actually started making up a table on this and it started to seem sorta..well......well...that it could just be easily asked here. I can make it visible and you can leave your comments here if you want. I was about to delete it. I will leave it pinned and visible for a few days. SH

Thanks steel. I think that is a good pin to have as a general guideline for beginners to check out. Also, the more experienced members can either PM or add to this thread their thoughts/experiences on new fish to add to the list

Noted...will pin it when done but leave it open so that our members can yay, nay or leave their experiences. SH

I did look for something like this when I started my nano up so think it is a good idea. Having it split into something like 10g, 15g, 20g+ sections would be a good call I think.

I looked at the table but didnt get what all the letters mean (guess there is a key to the table somewhere :) ).
