I have been keeping a 1000 litre reef aquarium for about 3 years set up with Deltec equipment Skimmer, Calcium Reactor, Fluidised Reactor for carbon,Kalk Stirrer, HLP Pumps and an IKS Computer controling PH, Water Temp, Water Top Up, Lighting and Wave Simulation. Today I have started something new I set up a Nano Cube 24G YES I AM GOING BACKWARDS but fancy the challenge and being inspired by Steelheair Post on his setup I will be stealing some of his ideas excellent thread. I have today got the cube going with live rock 12 Kilo. I am leaving the stock pump and installing a Tunze 6055 pump with a controler for wave simulation I have cut away some of the black plastic at the back of the tank for external lighting to refudge as Steelheair did cool idea. All other media has been removed but corbon and half a sponge for mechanical filtration. I will be taking things slowly as when I started reef keeping I was told that it was not about keeping fish and coral but about keeping water if water is good then all else would be fine also that it would take every spare bit of money that I had and to this day all was true. As this is my first post I hope to keep up with things and keep info coming like photo and parameters as the weeks go. I am no expert and have learned by some mistakes so here goes

Hi and welcome to the forum. I think you'll have a lot of fun with this tank. If you want to see a really good nanocube check out steelhealrs posts in the marine journal subforum.

Hi here is a few photos of some of the tanks I was talking about I will add some more as things progress not a lot happens in the first couple of days and I wont bore you with daily water parameters as I dont check them daily

Thanks nanocubeking I see your from Orlando I am gonig back there on holiday in August for two weeks can you recommend me going to any of your LFS to have a look around Ill be staying on US27 near Davenport

Really the only difference between keeping a large tank and a nano is basicaly you need to do a waterchange every week, fresh ro top ups about the same and on a whole just keep an eye open. If you do all of that then nano reefing can be a piece of cake.

For me there could be the problem because my main tank is so automated ie water top up and so much live rock and skimming I could leave the tank for months without doing water changes and seeing bad water parameters

I known I said I dont make daily water test at an early stage but reading some posts I see that some guys new to reef keeping dont know what to expect from there water and are eagerly waiting to get some life into those tanks so i will maybe put some parameters up every second day so it can be seen what is going on in a newly set up tank from me and all the others who have put up there parameters in a diary style so today I got an API Reef test kit consisting of a calcium, alkalinity, nitrate and phosphate test they were missing the main test at this stage of testing the ammonia and nitrite so I bought a seperate ammonia test kit the LFS had not got the nitrite in stock so results were as follows

Ammonia above 8 ppm
Nitrate 0 ppm
Phosphate 0 ppm
Calcium 450 ppm
Alkalinity 16 dKH

Water has been a bit cloudy for the last couple of days but today it started to clear here is a photo with sand now added
