I saw this fish at the shop, i like the body shape of these so i bought 10 because they were very cheap. Not so sleek as other small fish, although they seem to grow into more of a mormal shape when they get a little bigger. Is very possible they are like very young fish because some of the bigger ones looked a little more like a normal fish shape, probably a bad idea to buy a fish without knowing the species but no matter

Also I should note that they really don't seem to school as much as other small fish, often 1 or 2 wil go off on their own and there will be no groups over 2-3, they dont really seem to go in the same direction that much either. My friend has neon tetras and these fish school waaay less than neon tetras despite being a similar size to young neon tetras now

They were labelled 'feeder fish' lol, so Im assuming youre supposed to feed them to other fish

Here's a picture of 3 of them with a yoyo loach

Can anyone help me out? Anything is helpful

I can't tell you what it is, but I know it's not a lemon tetra - my boyrfriend has a school of 5.. lemon body shape is more similar to a serpae without the wavy fins.

Feeder fish are usual plain ole' (non fancy) guppies, minnows or some sort of goldfish. However, these fish don't look like either! So, Im not quite sure what ya got there. Maybe do a google search on "feeder fish".

hmm a difficult one
at first when I saw it I thought a Gambusia of some kind
but the body shape or more specifically the jawline leads me to think of a charicin
of some kind.

given that you are in Australia and the heavy import restrictions your governament has on fish
I doubt it is a Gambusia although I'm no expert on what is ans is not allowed in Oz.

I'll have a search of fishbase and see what pops up.

a quick search of fishbase reveals two possibilities
1. Hemigrammus ocellifer Head-and-taillight tetra
2. Brycinus nurse nurse tetra; I hope it is not this one as it reaches 25cm

I agree with The-Wolf, looks like some sort of tetra to me, who knows maybe it was mislabled somewhere in the collection/distribution process

Hey, like your YO YO alot!

I would say it's a head-and-taillight tetra, but the bottom fin isn't joined. From the pictures I've seen, it's more like the bottom fin of a lemon tetra, but it doesn't look like it here. I would say some kind of barb, or maybe a rasbora.

Could it be some sort of cross-breed between the head and tail-light and the lemon tetra? I've heard of fish breeders attempting to do cross-breeds. Maybe this was an attempt?

It's not any tetra's or caracins as they do not have a adipose fin,
Their also not Gamusia as that a livebearer, and their nothing like livebearers.

Their a barb of sort, and with the spot on the caudal peduncle area it would suggest their small rosy's or a cross breed.
