Name The Coral/invert Etc

BTW, does anyone know why I am still in the validating group and not the members group?
I don't use forums to often. Do I have to have a number of posts, or does a mod have to accept me?

I only care because I can't post in the Marine and Reef Chit Chat forum.

Thanks for any help,
Nick

I have asked Tolak to look into it for you :good:

ps will take a look at that coral tomorrow :D

Thank you Steffie, I tried to find Tolaks profile to send him a message, but I don't have access to the members page either. HAHA
Once this all gets sorted out I'm going to start my first aquarium journal, even though it will start 7 months since I set it up.

Good luck with the coral!

Nick

Alright, I would like to see this thread move forward so I'm going to give a few hints.

Name starts with an "L"
It is an LPS coral
Family is Faviidae

Good Luck,
Nick

Echinopora lamellosa????? if not i am super stumped on this one :)

Nope, not an Echinopora Lamellosa.
IMO, the picture looks nothing like a Echinopora.

Should I just give away the answer?
Or is anyone else going to guess?

Nick

Ahhhhh you #28###! Leptastrea! I had to look it up lol

And with Echinopora Lamellosa you never know lol I've seen ones that look like big pieces of monti and pieces I would of bet my shoes where turbinaria, so if in doubt whip Echinopora out lol.

YEAHHHH!!!! :good: :hyper:

Good Job!!!

I was starting to wonder how rare the coral really was in the hobby.
I know it isn't a popular one but I still thought it was somewhat common.

I finally got my dads Nikon for the week right when my lights went out tonight.
So I will upload pics of the leptastrea frags I got at the swap a week ago tomorrow.
I have two different species and as far as I can tell I have a Leptastrea Purpurea with silver/blue centers surrounded by red/brown and tiny clear tentacles.
And the other species I can't seem to get a positive identification on but it has darker green centers surrounded by a lighter green with no tentacles.
On the unidentified species the polyps look like little green plates when extended.

Nick

Ok guys what is this
images.jpg

now its quite rare!

Thats a Sympodium coral.
Somewhat new in the hobby. Its actually not that "rare" in my area.
Its still uncommon to find it at a LFS but not hard to frags from other aquarist!

Nick

:) if it's not that rare in your area I suggest you buy loads of it and sell it to other areas lol, I managed to pickup a bit on Monday and it was the first time I had seen one in the flesh lol. It was also the first time my LFS had seen one.

Nice one, your turn.

Thats cool you got a bit of it, it is a very unique soft coral and very pretty.
If you wouldn't mind, in a few months could you let me know how it grows?
I am very wary of introducing any species that may take over my tank.
I have heard that it doesn't grow as fast as say, Xenia, and would be interested to know its growth pattern.

It definitely hasn't been in any of my LFS's other than maybe ThatFishPlace, they have almost everything!
But I have seen frags of it available at the past three frag swaps.
I will probably pick some up at the next swap in April, so let me know how you like it. :good:

I will post the next mystery coral tomorrow.
An easy and a difficult one.

Nick

Alright here they are:

Easy Coral:
mystery2.jpg

-Give me the common name by which this specific blue/red coral is known, as well as the scientific genus and species.
-"Ignore the green Acropora in the bottom right"
Notice: Not my Image, image from "blog.fragd.it"

Difficult Coral -not sure how difficult this one will be:

NOTE: Due to the nature of this topic, please be aware of each photos file name before uploading and posting.
If the photos filename is "Frogspawn_Coral1.jpg" for example, people may be tempted to just download the file, which would reveal the name and ruin the game.
(I'm a poet and didn't even know it)

Good Luck,
Nick

P.S. I'm not exactly sure of the procedure for giving credit to the photographer when using their photos.
Is there any specific syntax that is usually followed to give adequate credit to the owner?

Pretty please, first in line for a frag :good:
