I was watching a rerun of that show Myth Busters yesterday. One of the myths they were looking at was that a goldfish has a memory of only 3 seconds. They said the myth is the reason goldfish can be kept in a bowl is because by they time they swim around the bowl they've forgotten it already and it always looks new to them.

Maybe the myth they should be looking at is "Goldfish can be kept in bowls".

Good Call Kombat!! Did they prove that goldfish have a 3-second memory?? Ah the things people come up with... :grr:

D'oh you have to ask??? Ask yourself this, do your fish remember where you feed them? Why should a goldfish be different?

lol if you watched the show, the two guys kept a tank each and had to teach their fish to cross a maze. one failed, and nearly killed his fish. the other was successful. both had too many goldfish in their tanks and neither of them cycled the tank first. But the show was well named.

ive seen mythbusters before its ok. neat fact about the bowl kombat also i read in The Times newspaper about a year ago that goldies dont have a 3 second memory.

This is totally off subject but flame i keep staring at your pic and cant for the life of me figure out what it is. Im sure it is obvious but i just cant see it. sorry it is just bugging me.

I think I read somewhere that the 3sec myth was origenated in a Jasper Carrot sketch and was taken as gospel. I think goldfishes memory is put somewhere in the three and a half month mark but I believe I read that on a "Goofy Facts" thing on the back of a cereal packet, so perhaps not the most reliable source!
