Has anyone ever heard of these fish or know their name?

I just got these fish from the fish store i think they were called "Rosebud" shark or barb. But I can not find anything about their existance on the web.
They are realy cool fish. They have a long slender like body and have a pink neon stripe from their eyes to their mid body and two realy cool yellow strips on their tail fin, one on the top and one on the bottom. They arent very big fish either.
They were kinda pricy at $20 a piece. The guy in the fish store said they are a new breed discovered about 3 years ago and found in only 2 rivers in India.

Has anybody ever heard of them?

Our LFS has those and tehy call them red torpedo barbs! You have to bring a sample of tank water with you before you purchase them, they are a shoaling fish best kept in groups. Lovely looking things

The common name is usually Denisoni barb. They get quite large and need a very large tank as they are shoaling fish and need A LOT of swimming room. $20 is pretty cheap, imo. Our LFS sells them for over $40 each.

they look a bit like flying foxes to me

Umm.. they don't look much at all like flying foxes, aside from the body shape. :p

Barbus, (Puntius), denisonii was first formally described by Day in 1865, i.e. somewhat more then 3 years ago. They are locally abundent in India. It is true, however, that they disappeared off the stock lists for many years and have blasted back on in the last few years, they are everywhere now.

If you search for "denisonii" or "torpedo" you'll find lots of threads about them.

right on about the fox thing....

One of its nicknames includes _____'s Flying fox.
