My Tanks Water Conditions - Fish-in Cycle

Thanks BTT - So basically a pond dechlor that also deals with ammonia would be like using ammo-lock and your regular dechlor.

Yes. Except if you are using Ammo Lock, you don't need anything else. Ammo Lock is a dechlorinator which also detoxifies ammonia. :good:

Now that I never knew, damn so looks like I wont be able to save money on de-chlor cause I need some Ammo-Lock, and if im getting Ammo-Lock Ill use it for de-chlorinating my water at the same time if it can do that.

Yes you can Az. Use Ammo Lock for now whilst cycling, then switch to pond dechlor after your cycle is done.

Ammo lock is one of the more expensive dechlors anyway, so won't last too long if you're doing daily water changes. :good:

Fantastic a night off water changes :D

Latest test results:

PH 7.6
Ammonia - 0.10 ppm
(I say this because it isnt quite yellow enough for 0 and it isnt quite green enough for 0.25 so thats got to be good surely? :D )
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 20 ppm

So ill be doing a water change tomorrow instead to get my nitrate down abit :) My ammonia showing a lower level than my tap water has got to be a good sign also, although may have been a slightly off test today I suppose?

Ill keep plodding along :)

With hobby level test kits, if you get a trace reading, I surgest you re-test. They can often throw random errors, so anything that seams questionable should warrent a re-test. If the two test results match, it's probibly right. If there is a discrapancy, test for a third time and draw your conclusion from that

Looks like a steap in the correct direction though :good:

All the best
Rabbut

Just done another test because I wanted to see what it would be after 12'ish hours, and its looking good :)

PH - 7.6
Ammonia - 0 ppm
(deffinate yellow, got my mum to check aswell :p )
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 20 ppm

So hopefully, dont wana get excited yet, but hopefully the tanks water conditions are starting to stabilize :D

Too lazy to read'em all and figure out which the heck tank and how the heck long! You might need to remind us.. is this the 54L little tank and its being fish-in cycled?

Regardless, assuming you are fish-in cycling and I'm right remembering that part, then your goal is to get two full days of zero readings for both poisons without doing any water changes. (This test would work fine even for you with your 0.25ppm ammonia in the tap water because its based on no water changes of course.) Probably most people would then keep watching it for a week, but basically it should mean its cycled.

Yep.

Ok cheers, will do another reading in abit as I havent actually got round to doing the waterchange I was going to do today :)

Another good result, just done another test and currently still stable at 0,0 :D Ive decided im going to leave the water change until tomorrow evening so I can see if the levels change over a 24 hour plus period, then ill make a water change and monitor it over the week, and then if im still getting stable readings by the weekend, hopefully Ill get the chance to add another couple to the gang :)

And as im picture crazy right now, a quick pic of my happy chappies :p

That's a really nice looking tank imo.

Just tested my tap water for nitrates and its at 5 but my tank water is still at 20. I'm confused.

Thanks.

Is that after a water change nitrates of 20?

UPDATE ON MY WATER:

Still steady at 0,0 :D

So what I done was a 40% water change, and now over the week im going to monitor the levels every couple of nights, and if by the weekend my water is still steady, then hopefully im getting some 'center piece' fish! :D Thinking something like, a couple of dwarf gourami's or honey gourami's or a couple of rams B-)
