My Tanks Too Big For Goldfish?

Looking at pictures and I can't believe the size of some goldfish! The pet shop had large goldfish in and I asked if mine would grow to that size (about 4 inches body) and got told no. If they live that long I shall be charging them rent

Somehow he lived until he was 8. His water never got changed, no filter or airstones etc. Now I really wonder how he lived so long.

Poor fish It's amazing though how they can manage, but it probably wasn't a happy life.
