My Sterbai Has 9 Lives -- Catfish

I dont think he was getting any better...definitely looks like it had a swim bladder problem, maybe in conjunction with lung failure, cause him to try and reach the surface to take air. Poor little guy, my condolences.

yea, something like that must of happend, now just gotta find some more freinds for me sterbai had them for like 2years and had 5 but now got one and never seen them since!!

Out of interest what water params are you running in this tank? Do you have any Aggressive species? What are your water change rates?

I know they sound like Nb questions but I wouldnt mind seeing if i can work out the cause so you dont loose more cories. I know how bad that feels.

nitrates 0.05 ppm
nitrites 0.00 ppm
ammonia 0.00 ppm

Temp 27 deg

Tank mates,
8 discus
more corys
2 bn's
1 bgk

water change = twice a week, 30% wed and sun.

Wow thats kinda risky for discus isnt it? Running a tank temp so low. Even so the cories are likely to do it pretty tough in the high temperatures, and could possibly be subject to bacterial resulting in swim bladder issues. This could possibly be it...when ive got a little more time ill have a look into it.

not at all risky for discus. ive found, that high temps with discus has killed my corys. also there average temp should be around 27-31deg so mine is fine. but im not sure. atleast he had a good life :)

I don't know which Corys you have beside the Sterbai but I hear the sterbai is indeed one of the few Corys can live in the higher temperature of Discus tank. If I remember correctly, C.Gossi(sp) is also mentioned.
And this does not happen often but I hear the sucker mouth type fish may develope the taste for Discus slime coat so you need to watch for that.
And I have no idea or what bgk is.

lol yes, commons and gibbys have the taste for slimeoats, not bn's so im good there, also Bgk is a black ghost kinfe fish. i have some schartzi corys with them. they are doing great in the higher temps.
