I just wanted to tell a little story of one of my betta named Ray. my betta tanks are near my community tank, so often times i notice that my bettas watch the community tank like their own personal tv. I made little planters for my betta tanks because i wanted to add some aquatic plants to their tanks. I took a clear plastic party cup and added a little gravel to it, i bought an lobelia cardinalis and planted it into the cup. It looks like a little aquatic tree with aerial roots and branches, anyways I noticed that whenever i start cleaning the tank my buddy will just swim into the cup where he can swim down around the trunk with the branches and leafs above him. I had alge growing in one of my betta tanks and it was driving me nuts one day so i decided i was gonna drain it, clean it out really good and cut back drastically on the fertaliser for the plants. So i started taking some water out and Ray saw what was going on and just swam into his cup. I took the cup out and slowly lowered it into my community tank. I wasnt worried since theres nothing aggressive in the community tank and this would just be for a few minutes. When the pot touched the bottom Ray swam out and started to investigate all the new and much bigger plants and mosses growing in this tank. The other fish didnt even bother to slow down and see the new guy, maybe they were used to seeing him daily? Ray went plant to plant eyeballing every thing like a little scientist, took a swim through my hollow logs and made sure to visit every corner of this much bigger world. Meanwhile I cleaned his tank, refilled it with aged water and had it heat to the same temp as my community tank. When it was time for him to come home I reached into the community tank to get Ray's plant and he came swimming towards my hand and swam into his cup! I simply picked it up and put him and his favorite plant back into his tank. So instead of stressing over getting your tank cleaned, he got a chance to meet his next door neighbors. I couldnt believe he came back when he saw me taking his plant! What a smart little boy
heres an older pic of him, I gotta take some new ones cause now he's got real plants, a java moss bed and his favorite little aquatic "tree"

That was such a cute story! I wish my bettas made it that easy lol.
Gosh, bettas are such little characters. I love it when they go around and investigate every single inch of a new tank or something new in their tank.

:hyper: that is so sweet! When I used to only have 2 bettas years and years ago their personalities really shone through. I think that is the trouble with having 14 or 15  you cant give them enough individual attention.

What a cute story! There's a tank next to my sorority tank, but I wouldn't dare put any of my bettas in it... it's a 75 gallon with an OSCAR in it! LOL We actually keep a towel draped between the two, otherwise the oscar is eyeballing the girls and I think it stresses them out.

What a good and beautiful fish you have! :fish:

awww haha bless his heart, they are very clever fish i'll give them that
I have a couple that resign themselves to the net at water changes, they just know it's for a good cause lol

Aww that's such a nice story. :)
Yeah, Bettas are deff. very clever!!
Gotta love 'em, LOL!

Thanks everyone. He really is a lucky catch. I found him at a petshop too! Never saw a delta tail at the petshop before so I just had to grab him. He's so active and so friend too. He'll eat anything too, where as my other betta is a super picky eater, its gotta be tiny tiny floating betta pellets or he wont have anything to do with it, meanwhile my delta tail eats all sorts of foods. They're so different from each other, like people lol.
