My Siamese Fighter Fish..

Ahh, I see. Yeah, that CT's rays seemed reasonably straight to me, lol. Speaks of frequent water changes ;) Your girl is adorable too, though; they don't sell females in this area because apparently nobody buys them. :/ I always want to say "but I'D buy them!"

as much as everyone complains about walmart, the ones near me actually take quite good care of their fish. the cups are clean and by and large the fish are healthy. i actually thought people just like to complain and make a big deal out of nothing until i visited walmarts in other parts of the country and found the deplorable conditions others have described.

I'm sorry but... did no one notice he said his wal-mart has moorish idols? Wal-mart doesn't even sell saltwater fish. I'm guessing this person knows their fish, and heck they may even be his... but he's just playing ignorant for whatever reason. Most accomplished hobbyists can't even keep idols in captivity, much less wal-mart. However "good" someone's wal-mart is, I doubt they could keep those alive.

I don't usually start flame wars... but sorry... as a corporate chain wal-mart doesn't sell bettas for $1.29 one place and $4 at another. It's all the same. They also don't carry sw fish like I mentioned before.

Yea I've found a halfmoon and a ct at petco... but not that quality.

Which walmart did you say this was..cas I'd like to call them and inquire how they obtained "wild" bettas..AND have sale staff that are experienced enough to know that they are "wilds" and that they need a heavily planted 10 gallon to themselves.

I haven't ever seen a "fish sale" at Walmart either..and I am a REGULAR Walmart customer..some of the stores in my area know me by name during certain shifts...I'm like clockwork lol. And if this one is having fish sales..I want to know about it..so I can inquire at mine why they don't ever. Cas I see the same sad faces sitting in those cups everytime I go.

I'd be very interested to know what you feed your Moorish Idols as well, if you don't mind, and how you acclimated them upon their arrival at your home, how many you have, and what size tank they reside in. Thsoe are just amazing fish!

Yes even in different countries. When the WM near me sold fish(which they don't anymore all of their tanks are empty) the bettas were $3.97 everyday.

The WM near me did not carry anything but VT and the occasional CT. The CT were usually MORE, and not less. Also, as a rule, WM usually sells things for $XX.97. That is part of their strategy. I don't recall seeing much there that doesn't sell for .97 or .47, it makes it seem like they are cheaper than other stores who sell the same product for .99.

I have never seen fish that looked as nice as these fish at any WM. I sincerely hope those are your fish as they are beautiful, I just doubt that they came from a store like Walmart. :dunno:

Alrighty, Just because someone says they got some nice looking bettas from walmart means nothing, personally, I've gotten some very nice fish from a Petco

FOR instance this fish was under 3$

You cant see his rays because he's a punk when it comes to pictures, but he's a double double ray.

And then there's this fish which I got from a chain called Petland.

So yes, I have to say it is possible to get nice fish at big chain stores.

And I don't think that that last fish is a fusca, this is a fusca :)

i wasnt so sure that looked like a fusca, either. from what i remember they look a lot like betta pugnax. i've gotten some pretty decent fish at petco too, though not as nice as yours! these 3 crowntails came from petco:

That's the part I find fishy... no pun intended ;)
Walmarts can and do get in some great fish sometimes by sheer accident. One time my local Walmart got in about 15 GORGEOUS CT males. Many of them were breeding quality, I kid you not. One of my friends bought one of them and still has it today, perfectly straight rays and all. I've also gotten a couple of cute DT females there before. This week there were two melano females, probably sent off to Walmart because they are infertile.

Hey,

Wow you guys were busy yesterday!

Black orchid CT's are not so rare any more but they aren't common either.

The CT in my pic was one from duen betta so you can see what people mean.

What you need to realise is that seen as the IBC have been putting out the 'please don't add to VT misery' message, people have listened and as a result breeders who used to supply VT are now shifting to higher quality stock and therefore it is filtering down into petstores. A good thing IMO.

A good website to tell tail types is betty splendens. and as for your female wild try the IBC's speicies maintainence project....

mmkay.. i have four and they're in a 310g with a snowflake eel, i feed the moorish, nori, mysis, ocean plankton and brine shrimp. why?

actually, bloozoo, oscars sell for dirt here in the States. $3.99 will buy you most tyoes of oscars under 3" in length.

the cheapie price of oscars is the biggest reason that so many of them are bought by people who are completely unprepared to keep them. they just see this little fish that's so cute and bright colored and its following them just everywhere they walk and oh, look! its so cheap too! well, i suppose i could make room for one more fishy in my 10 gallon guppy tank... or maybe i could get its own 5 gallon... :look:

although that oscar looks to be in the 5-6" range, $3.99 is still not a completely unreasonable price.

oh my goodness - you guys in the USA are so lucky - you (generalization) honestly don't realise how cheap things are there, compared to the UK :/
