More of the quality and nature of the picture that I'm talking about, not the flaring. It's also kind of interesting how the first three pictures have the same style and the third one looks very unprofessional, with watermarks and what not. I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend you or make you feel unwelcome on this forum at all, but I've noticed that there are some people who like to post on the forums simply to get a rise out of people. Under first impression, I thought your post was of that nature. :*)

the last two arent as nice because i took them at a dif time because the bats in my cam died. i cant see why u'd judge some1 by the qaulity of 1 pic.. plus some fish arnet as photogenic.

edit - i took another pic of the crownt taiil(?) so u can see he is really my fish

plus another pic of the last betta.. who i still dont really know what tail type it is

What can I say, we get flamers on this site and it's really really annoying. The picture thing was my opinion, I don't know why other people are skeptical or whatever.

Personally? ;) I was sceptical myself at first because the CT looks like something fresh from Duenbetta. Not just similar; identical. If you check out their fish, you'll see it could be a spawn sibling to several of their Black Orchids.

Also, no WalMart should be selling those because WalMart, as a corporate franchise, would likely have a contract with certain high-yielding fish farms to supply their fish, meaning while the quality of care may vary from store to store, the quality of fish should remain fairly constant. Any WalMart selling those fish would be in violation of a contract, because those are just not fish farm fish; at least, not North American fish farms :p It's not to say they wouldn't; it's to say they shouldn't ;)

Finally, I can't understand why one female would be in a v lushly planted tank while all the other fish appear to be in beanie boxes. It doesn't seem fair to the others ;) :p

They are gorgeous fish either way, though, and I would love to see that CT flaring, if you can manage it. All we seem to see so far is his side; I'd love to get a better look at his face. I'm sure it's gorgeous :)

well i dunno, i asked why they were diff from all the ones with long tails and they said they didnt know because they ordered from the same place as they alway do.

and the brown female(?) is in a planted tank cuz i was told she was a wild and needed a more exotic home?? and yeah i'll try and get one in the morning(lights, etc have been turned off for the night), he always turns away.

They would all very much appreciate planted tanks ;) I'm one to talk, of course- none of my females are in planted tanks right now, but that's only temporary. Even if you don't want to use a substrate, you can buy weighted silk plants very cheaply, which will give them places to hide.

i look forward to seeing more of them, they're lovely.

oh. they are all in 5g planted tanks, its just the brown female is in a 10g heavily planted tank, w/ bogwood and etc. :)

They are all gorgoeus! Very lovely fish. :D

Just curious...do you somehow grow plants without substrate? Because in the Black Orchird CT picture, and the blue female, they are near the bottom and you can see there is no substrate. Just wondering, because I have some bare-bottom Livebearer fry tanks, and I'd like it if I could stick some other live plants in there besides floating ones...I just didn't think it was possible at all to grow plants without the substrate? It makes no sense to me...how would they root? But obviously you've found a way to do it, so if you could share your technique with me I'd love it...:)

Annatasia, I'm pretty sure the first 3 Bettas are in Betta barracks. You can tell because they're in clear boxes with holes and there is water around them ;)

I CANT believe you got a Black Orchid CT from W*M!!! Not to accuse you, that just amazes the heck out of me. The second male looks to be a purple/red Super Delta. I have no idea about the 4th female, she does seem to have a large body but so do a few of my Splenden females. The Betta you're getting from a friend is definitely a girl... she looks to be full of eggs, and you can see her ovipositor (or "eggspot) on the bottom of her belly. Only females have ovipositors, it's a small white dot where eggs come out when they spawn.

that is just the tank i used to take the pictures in so i get better shots.

i am guessing a 'black orhid ct' is rare? and thank you. :D

oh my.

the quality of fish, even in stores like walmart, certainly does vary regionally. i travel a lot and always check out the betta stock in various parts of the country. i do know other rather fortunate people who have obtained fish that look like they have come from breeders at a walmart. i don't usually look at their males, but the 3 walmarts closest to me regularly stock double ray crowntail females. maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge...

as for those photos, i don't really see anything that would raise my suspicions. my own photos will vary in quality depending on where i take them...and when i took them. i went through a lot of experimentation before i found a setup and method that seems to work pretty well for me. nowadays most of the time i use a glass cube that has no purpose other than to serve as a photo tank. the tank is completely empty so nothing else appears in the photo besides the fish, and i keep the front windexed to eliminate any watermarks. like so:

there you can see the fish flaring at his reflection at the end of the tank.

in some cases, i take photos of the fish in their own tanks, for whatever reason. note the difference:

Aww, those are gorgeous. Are you in the States or Canada, then? I'm in Canada myself . . . I'd be very curious to get a look at the list of suppliers for the chain, then, having seen those lovelies.

i'm in the US. just want to clarify the fish i included pictures of were just to demonstrate the difference in photo quality; they're not from walmart. this is a lousy photo (it's before i really got my photo taking system down) but this girl is from one of my local walmarts:
