The first one is a female.. the second one might be too... the third one is a male.

How can you tell just by looking at thier faces. I didnt think you could do that until they were full grown and the males fins started lengthing out more, or by them pairing off to breed.

Males typically have pronounced markings on their faces like my fish do,
Sexing severums can be difficult unless you know what to look for.
Males are generally larger and broader in the chest that females.
The male also has more prominent facial markings than females.
Unlike many cichlids the male doesn't have longer anal or dorsal fins.
The safest way to get a pair is to use the method used for Oscars,
add around 6 and hope for them to pair up.

The first one doesn't have markings on its face... look at it compared to the other yellow one... theres an obvious area with no squiggles on it... I could post some pics of my pair.. they look quite similar to yours.. your female being nicer though

that is how I do oscars but never breed the severums that I had, now all i have is 5 bettas, as soon as my new house is built it will be a different story then, including in the garage or shed is my new fish house, will get pics when its done.
