That's a beautiful shade of red on Syd, and D. Nightshade looks like he has some amazing finnage! Great Fish!

But what's up with Syd's fins? Is he with other fish, or does he have a filter in his tank? Because it looks like somethings been at him.

Hang on *goes to get sunglasses* wow thats a stunning shade of red! You CT looks a right lil stunner to

Hes in with 2 plecos & an angel fish, Did have some see-through fish which could have got at him perhaps thats why they were all found dead yesterday? I noticed he went for one of them but left them alone afterwards.

I did ask the guy in the store if they would be ok with him (3 of them) and he said it would be fine.

Is there anything i can do about his fin as i dont want nothing to happen to him?

He is also in with a filter but i havent seen him get stuck or anything i have been in all weekend hmm

it could be the angelfish thats doing the damage, they can be aggressive at times and his fins would be a massive target.

Agreed. Angels are a type os cichlid and are notorious fin nippers. Those "see through fish" you mentioned may have been x-ray tetras and are also fin nippers, but being as they are not as aggressive as the Angels, the betta fought back. You might want to either put a divider in the tank to give him his own section or get him a small tank of his own anything over 2 gallons, or even a gallon is fine. But with the gallon you have to do either a 100% water change once a week or 50% water changes twice a week to keep the water quality good. :good:

So would you say it was a coincidence that the three see through fish all died within an hour of me being out of the room?

I did see him go for one of them but like i said he showed no interest thereafter.

here is a picture of them

Im so sad i just got back and he was dead  :byebye:

I hadnt had him long. His bottom fins looked damaged more..

If the angel fish was the culprit surely the guy at the store would have said something when i was buying both of them?

I tried putting him in a bowl of water, , someone suggested gently rubbing its body and adding a pinch of brandy to the bowl - Weather or not they were taking the piss or not i thought it was worth a try they wernt laughing..

:rip: Syd

OMG that is so sad he was beautiful. I know we keep saying it but I would never keep a betta with anything. When they are in the shops they seem to act differently. I saw one today in with a load of guppies and they were ignoring each other. The guppies were males as well. So sorry about Syd..he sure was a looker

:( I want him back. Am i being sad to be so bothered by a fishes death?

Im now scared , on the weekend i have Deadly Nightshades arrival, What can i keep with him? He'l have a whole Fluval Roma 125 and a shipwreck to himself, Plants are on there way will be here by then.

That tanks been setup since last tuesday so by saturday it will be 11 days

I dont want a chance of anything happening to him. Hes a beautiful specimen like Syd was.

you're not sad to be upset about it, all of us on here get really upset about our bettas getting sick or dying. and the problem is that a lot of LFS staff either don't know enough about the fish, or will just tell you anything to make a sale! at least now you know better.

what you could consider doing is sectioning off a section at the end of your tank for deadly nightshade, then you could keep normal community fish in the rest of the tank without the risk of them hurting him, or vice versa.

something like this would do the job nice and easily.

Thanks for the advice Ibbledibble,

I shal look in to that as i want betta but obviously want a variety of fish in my tank :)
