My Pond Build.

Thanks everyone glad you all like is so far.

Saph thans very much for the pics, sure has helped. :good:

I think my jap mat is in bits but should not be expensive to buy, and did not have any white filter wool, lucky i have a big roll of this which i cut up and use on my aquarium.

Is there any other media under the jap mat and filter wool?

As you can see i have the vortex chamber which have a couple of black brushes, next chamber has the red brushes x 6, next chamber has the jap mat, the next 2 chambrs are full of some kinnd of media flocur?

All media is second hand, and i was told has all been cleaned, was brought from a very reliable source too.

Cheers Gordon.

hi binksy

pp any way for your own peace of mind

under the white filter wool is 2lb of oyster shells in a fine weave laundry bag of all things lol it was the only thing i could find fine enough and under the oyster shells is flocur

the japmat is just stacked as shown in diagram nothing in between,
jap mat is fairly expensive for what it is but it can last for years,

i would get more red brushes fill those gaps :good: ive got 18 in 6 rows of 3 but i could fit 3 more in if i wanted :hyper:
get rid of the black brushes in the vortex(maybe but them in with the red brushes) they may just swirl around in the vortex and disturb the muck ,a vortex brush doesnt do this it sits still and allows the water to swirl through it and its great for catching dead blanket weed, :good:

another tip for winter wrap you exposed pipes with bubble wrap :D

what ever you decide with the media layout youve got a very good filter

Hi again all,

Just to let you all know this project should get going again soon seems its been a long winter. The project came to a stop last year partly because of a new girlfriend plus winter started to set in.

This weekend coming should see most of the pipework completed, plus a section in the rockery bricked up each side of where the valves are, then a lid will be made from decking to cover it.

Cheers Gordon
