she had about 20 fry about 3 days ago, but my platy did not go down in size after the births and is still fatter than my other 2 platies. can she still be pregnant or somthing? its been 3 days....

also my sisters platy had fry. she has no place to put them so i got them. i have like 40 fry now in the fry box!

around 2 weeks.

and i know it was her that had the fry for sure because i had her in a fry trap thing isolated from the rest of the fish.

I know Mollies can store sperm for up to six months I think, and just release babies once a month until they finally deplete what they've had stored up. Platies might be the same way, it might be a livebearer thing in general.

If she has a gravid spot (which by the way, I've NEVER noticed on my mollies or platies, and they've both had fry!) she is probably still pregnant. Give her a month and you might want to put her back in the breeder trap.

By the way, HOW did you spot she was preggers and put her in the trap? Even though my mollies have had about three batches of fry, I can never spot them before it happens, and am always suprised one morning with 20 something babies in the tank. The few times I've THOUGHT I had a livebearer close to giving birth, she just really had to poop.

well i have read that just before a platy gives birth her stomach changes from a big fat round marble to a big box, squareish look. when i saw this i rememnerd it and put her into the birthing trap thing with the V on the bottom.
about 6 hours later i went and checked again and saw all these little fry swimming around the bottom of the trap.

the weird thing is, after the fry came outa her, she is still big boxy squareish looking and just as big as before. this is whats throwing me off because she looks just as fat as she did a few hours before she had fry.

also my platy never developed a gravid spot. i dont know of other kinds to but i have those wag type platies and i dont think these kind do because mine sure did not.

i would take a picture but i have medication in the water to get rid of ich and it really screws up my ability to get a good clear picture.

sunset platy dont get a gravid spot but you can see the fry in her tummy. my platy got fatter not long after she had her fry. one month later she had more and a month after that.
