Hey guys! My fish are just recovering from an internal parasite, but I still have a couple of pregnant fish that weren't hit as hard by it. Okay, here we go.

How long until my green swordtail gives birth?

I have an idea how long it's going to be, but I just want some other opinions.

Thanks in advance for any help! :good:

P.S. I don't have any males (that mate.) in the tank, they are just using stored sperm. The male platy in the picture doesn't mate ever, he's one that I raised from a baby.
The swordtail looking like a male is actually a female turning into a male.
Thanks.

I'm not sure about swordtails, but the platy looks really close. Within a few days to a week! :) She has a birthing tube (at least in the pic)

Awesome! Really!? I can't wait! This will be my first drop since last month! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

....Thank you...... :good:

My platy dropped today!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
And she's not done! :D

So far I've caught 5 babies, and I'm pretty sure she's still having them. The babies just got to get by my adult female swordtails, which can fit month-old babies in their mouths....

Well, we'll see how many I get. :D

I also got a new 10 gallon tank today, so you can guess what kind of mood I'm in. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Anyhow, thanks for the help! :good:

Okay, I took some pics. They aren't the best, but that's because they are so small! :)
By the way, I'm up to 7 now. :D

Thanks! :D

One of my swords dropped to day. A day after her expected "due date". :D

7 babies so far, all cuties, like last birth. :D

Thanks for looking!

Just so you know, even if you don't see your male platy mate and you say he NEVER does, I can guarantee he does mate. You don't always see them mating. I had a male that you never saw mate but believe me he was responsible for many offspring. Your platy and swordtails will also interbreed so you will have platy/swordtail crosses

Yes I know, I've been breeding fish for quite awhile, and I'm sure you have been too, but I'm just saying, that male platy doesn't mate, I know that for a fact. It doesn't matter though, I don't really care who the father is, or if she's using an older pocket of sperm, they're babies, and they're healthy.

Thanks.

How do you know for a fact that he doesn't mate? Just curious cause unless you watch him 24/7 or he is infertile or has a defective gonodopium how do you know he doesn't mate? Yes, I have been breeding fish for many years so I know that a male that can breed will breed under normal circumstances.

I just know he is infertile. He never developed properly, because his growth was stunted somehow, (even though he was growing in a 10 gallon tank with only a couple baby fish.) so he's always remained infertile.

Thanks for the suggestion
