My Planted 100 Gallon Discus Setup

A UPS is an Uninterruptable Power Supply used for PC's so if the mains power is lost they will send a signal to the computer to shutdown without losing data.

I still don't understand what good this would do for an aquarium. The power will still go out and there is no data in your fish. Or does it warn you with some kind of alarm?

The good it will do for an aquarium is that when the power is lost it continues to provide power via an internal 12 volt cell. So the filter and heater will continue running. According to the calculations it should provide power adequate for over 3 hours for the filter and as the heater will only be intermittent it will provide adequate supply for that also.

I will also be upgrading the UPS with another 12 volt cell running in conjunction to allow even longer usage if power is lost.

Nice idea UPS aren't they expensive though?

Sam

I paid £25 for it, i am in the industry though so i get a discount as a trade customer, but they are not that expensive really, they have come down considerably lately.

Right, certainly worth it if you have expensive tanks, like marines, cant hurt on freshwater either. Will keep them in mind, cheers.

erm the cory pic you have on page 3, you named it Julii Cory, when it's actually a Three-Lined Corydoras, I have 3 of my own. Didn't know what they were at first, got them ID on a fish forum (this one I think) and they are Three-Lined Corydoras but at fish store they also have them as Julii.

Alot of confusion between the two types, I'm told anyway.

But all in all nice tank. Any new pictures?

I have not updated as much as i would have liked too as i have been in bed for the past week apparently i have been hallucanating too. All fun. Have been extremely ill.

Everything has gone quite terrible, fertilisers were missed, pruning and removal of dead leaves, riccia removal etc.

I shall post pics anyway of the tank and its inhabitants. Oh and the corys are trilinateus, that was another ill moment of judgement. My LFS have got some juliis in for me anyway so I will be picking them up after christmas. I cant really leave the lounge at the moment.

Gorgeous Discus, exactly the type I want if/when I keep them.

They are wonderful, my favourite colour variation. I have two of these, the other is a high fin variety.

I managed to get a good photo earlier.

Hi Chris, hope you feel better soon, i am sure you will get your tank back into shape in no time, the fish look healthy and so will the plants very soon, merry christmas and a happy new year regards john.

Thanks John and Fish-aholic.

Its such a pain being able to see what wants changing and not being able to do it. Being ill sucks.
