My Own Worst Electrician......

What is the craic here Ludwig? Surely this is not really how you have your wiring?

Looking at the photos this could be across the pond in the USA ?? aren't you still on 110v over there, not so much risk of total fry up.

Well…. In my opinion, this setup has been running well over a year now (we have 240v standard)…. And I’ve had worse when I had all my tanks running…. The biggest contenders being the heater in the fishroom and the air blower…..

And then of course…. All the tanks have 100w filament globes for lighting

And the display tank has this “Hangon filter”

Plus this thermal (built-in heater) eheim filter…..

Is it really such an issue????

My father is an electrician and he said there are a few red flags here. For your own safety, as well as your fish, I would rethink your set up! Good luck!

Ludwig, when I finally get my South African singing engagement, how am I supposed to visit if your house burns down?

:lol:

While I certainly love a good BBQ that is not the way to go about it. Consider some of these; http://www.jehmco.com/html/power_bus_strips.html

Single freestanding tanks can get by with the household strips, a working fishroom need a more industrial setup, similar to the way you have a blower rather than a zillion small pumps.

I'm not an electrician, my ex's father, as well as my brother in law are. I've got no problem bending pipe, pulling wire, and so on, when it comes to installing new service with a new panel & such I do ask for their eyes before starting & powering it up. They're the card carrying union guys that do it for a living, and remain living. I'm sure if they saw those pictures they would wonder if you are still living. :lol:

I've got a 20 amp & 15 amp circuit for the fishroom, biggest draw is heaters. I went with a centralized air driven system long ago due to the electrical mayhem caused by individual filters. I'm not real big on lights, most are smaller flouro fixtures. The second best thing I've done besides air to all the tank is the large bus strips;

I don't do the "art quality" pipe bending of my BIL, it is all up to code;

Humidity causes corrosion, which causes bad connections. Bad connections, wet floor, wet hands in tank, and zappo, smoke comes out of your ears. Best way to prevent this is to start with good solid connections, any time I'm messing with water in the fishroom I'm wearing my work boots, with a good electrical hazard rating.

all that water with bad electrics :lol:
Id be to scared to go to bed at night.
Can imagine if 1 of them tanks leaked.
Good luck with that tho.
My saying is do things proper or not at all.
Rather be alive and buy extensions. Than be dead with all fish around me and all tanks smashed.
cus i guess if water went into 1 of them plugs u would have a big pop :good:
