hey guys, im back again with a better and cycled tank, so right now i brought a Oscar, the one thats look like olivegreen and had red scales(thats glow)

and hes been hiding in the back and they said he is aggresive, but he just cool with the gold fish ( he chase them around a little) and he doesnt eat any food, is that normal for the first few days?

I don't think goldfish and oscars will go well together in a tank as the oscars are tropical, goldfish coldwater.

The oscar may be a bit funny at first, may take a few days for him to get use to the new surroundings.

hmm thanks for the great info, and yes i know goldfish are cold water

what other fish goes with oscars?

wouldnt it have been a better idea to ask this before you bought the oscar?? the goldfish are going to be an expensive meal for him, and if you know they are cold water then why are they in there with him? hes not chasing them cos hes playing, hes chasing them cos he wants them gone!

totally impossible to recommend any fsh that could go with him untill we know the tank size
they are preditory fish and will eat anything that will fir in there mouths
they are well known for sulking, but also as they are very messy fish, they are also effect by ammonia spikes (may well display same symptoms) caused by inadequate filtration, so the best thing you can do is test your water right now, post the results up here and we can see if hes grumpy or not

shelagh xxx

Is he in the 20g tank you mentioned in a previous post?

I love Oscars, they are such beautiful interactive fish, but I did lots of research & realised that I cannot offer an oscar a large enough tank or the best environment yet, so I am holding off until I find the perfect home for one.

I dont understand why he is with goldfish?

Let us have your tank details, temp etc, it might help us understand why he isnt happy.

Ive already posted my views on this on another thread

can you get us the following info

tank size
ammonia levels
nitrite levels
nitrate levels
temp

cheers

i assume the oscar is in the tank with the red gravel??

oh take him back to the store! you cant keep him in that, i get so annoyed by people that buy these beautiful fish with no idea how to respect them
the tank isnt even set up to meet his needs, wouldnt matter if he was only 2inches small at the moment ( they grow fast and huge)
red gravel?? this may suit your tastes, but that oscar will hate it, its not natural in anyway
as fish keepers we simply have the privilige of taking the very best care we can of "our" fish, decorating a tank in scarey colours and unfiltering, cramming fish in and neglect of the basics isnt part of the deal :(
they can also live for 10 yrs, with the best of care

one theyre new to this
two theyre seeking out a 200 gallon tank

only saying this as we all know that lfs can be ******* when it comes to stocking and in his other post he said theyre adding blue gravel in a week which was like a month ago so just go easy on them as if i joined and added my pproblem and got that answer id leave the forum and carry on getting horrific advice from my lfs

Yeah but Bae, they've also been given over a months worth of good advice from people here....most of which they chose to ignore.
There is a heater in with the goldfish because 'it's a community tank' even though they've already been told goldfish don't need them.
They were told to buy a test kit many many many times before eventually two weeks later saying they might go and get one. (we're still to hear if they have)
Oh and before they even bought any fish they were told about fishless cycling...THEN they went out and bought fish so are now on the fish in cycling proces...to which he added another fish...a plec of all things!
Also apparently the goldfish are only in there for awhile before it gets turned into a tropical community...so where are the goldfish going? -_-

People allow for people making mistakes in the beginning. But when people choose to ignore sound advice on a whim...people have much less patience.

yes i no but he may want to do fish in cycle
the goldfish will be fine in warm water as in ponds it regulary can get to tropical temps as mine did and im in uk
and theyre fine and no sighn of stress
theyve only had 5 posts so not much info on them
and when i started my reef i did not cycle it as i did not know of it ,this was wrong but no fish died and all corals thryved and all i did was add water leave a day add rock and fish and corals yes i was lucky and probbly a one off but the point is it can happen and no this is notv me telling you to do this as i was lucky and it was a stupid dumba** but just go easy sorry to rant and argue but giving solutions nicely to there problems is better than telling them there faults harshly imo

I would agree completely with you if it wasn't for the fact that their are living animals involved. When you have good advice readily available and choose to ignore it. And then on a whim decide you're going to bring another animal into the mix...I just can't agree that a little bit of a criticism isn't justified. It doesn't annoy me when people make mistakes, but this doesn't feel like a mistake...

And why would anyone WANT to do a fish in cycle? "Hmm shall I poison my new pet or not...I know how easy it is too not...but I can't really be bothered to put the effort and patience in. Poisoning it is!"

bae1994, I agree with you to a point, we were all newbies once & we all made mistakes, I still feel soooo guilty when I think of the fish I lost during a fish in cycle I was told to do, this forum is brilliant & the way members give free, helpful advice which normally comes from experience is priceless.

But, reading through the posters previous posts, it seems that advice has been given, but then ignored in an almost proud 'I did it anyway & all is good' kind of way.

Poster was told Oscars are aggressive, & not to put them with his comets, but he did it anyway, he was told to keep male & female Betta seperate, but he did decided to keep them together anyway, this advice isnt given to be a party pooper its given for a good reason.

Those fish may all seem ok now, but they will be stressed & will either soon die or become diseased :(

Thats the only reason people are getting abit narky with their replies, I think most of us have the welfare of the fish foremost in our minds.

1. goldfish has been removed
2. i added blue gravel, and planing to buy some ruins decoration,
3. Thanks for giving me advice and as to let yall know, i do listen to it and take it as an advice and it helped, and i did my fish-in cycle
4. i got a correct size for my tank its a 29gallon
5. im buying more gravels for natural looking and adding plants later, thank you guys

thank you guys for helping

29 gallons is NOT the correct size for an oscar. You need 100 gallon + . These fish grow very large, over 12 inches in length ,are strong and hefty in the body and produce a LOT of waste.
