Hi, felt like dropping in to show a few people my new tank - unfortunately due to a few past problems with the admin here I stopped posting here but over the years prior to that I chatted about fish with a lot of great people that I still see are active here and they all really helped me work out what I wanted from the hobby and what I wanted to keep so just wanted to say thankyou and give you all an update on my tank :)

So here it is, it arrived last weekend from ND aquatics and I have moved my stock over from my 4 foot tank to this one. Its a 6x18x2 at the moment only one FX5 but soon to be adding a second.

My new young Belum Severums, Mac and Mabel - in the excitement of me getting them I did not realise that they had a tear in their right pectoral fin and its not going to heal, it looks like a birth defect to be fair but they are great and Mac is such a character now a little over 3 inches and already taking on my 6 inch female Nic, not won yet though lol :p

My Agenisous sp. Catfish - Bumble :) Who finally I can 100% confirm is not a pangasious no matter how much he looks like one lol :p He has the typical wood cat skull like cap on his head like wood cats and also a serious lack of any barbels of any kind :) Also in 4 months of having him he has not grown at all!

Also in the tank are my school of Lemon Tetras, 5 Anostoums Ternetzi and 3 Whiptail Cats (2x Sturisoma .sp, 1x Loricarade .sp)

Plans for the tank, maybe try a male Nic with my female see if it keeps her occupied as she is currently trying to breed with anything male in the tank. And maybe some more catfish but not many and not sure what I want yet - most likley some kind of wood catfish that is quite active but not the easiest thing to find :)

So yeah a brief hello and I might stick around to have a chat about this tank but I'm not really back as such people can still email me from my profile though :)

After all the real life hassles you have told me about over the last six months, I'm really pleased for you that this big tank upgrade has finally taken place, looks a nice bit of kit!:good:

Without looking up profiles of your community, I've no idea on their preferences, but if they are not bothered by some current (and in such a big tank they some can easily find calmer bits if need be) I can definitely recommend buying a 22mm elbow joint to use instead of the standard double nossle (the flow of which is nopticeably reduced at anything different than both nossles square to their sockets, 90 degrees to each other)... Cost me a whopping £1.69 a couple fo weeks ago and such a difference. ;)

is that to fit the fx5?tell me more if it is? lol

Will the tank looks spot on mate and I especially like the Nic and the two who look like festivums :good:

thanks guys :)

Goat - yes its been quite a while coming :) With the pipe do you mean to replace the heads? I have to admit the current from the FX5 in this tank is pretty pitiful so I had to go get a 1000 lph powerhead for the far end as there was just no movement there at all.

Simon - they are Festivums, wild ones from Columbia which makes them the Egregius :)

Like this, except I have the elbow joint output only partly submersed in the water, for more surface agitation...

From your tank photo, it looks at though you have moved the standard double-nossles together, which definitely reduces flow (I had mine setup like this for ages until I found that FX5 mods site and then tested it out).

Wow what a brilliant website! His mod for the internal modification is brilliant! I wish I was handy enough and confident enough not to throw away a £100+ filter lol.

I will certainly have a think about the pipe mod it really does make sense I had never realised that the pipes got cut off that much - and mine are probably actually in a really bad placement anyway as they are angled outwards and upwards.

I have to say I will always argue the FX5 is a brilliant filter but there is a lot of little things that cut the advertised flow rate....

Thanks for the kind comments guys :)
